i personally like vcd cutter
i paid for it, althoug most use that other free software that supposedly kicks ass for images and motion images

if you do a search on vcd cutter, it would be worth it in my opinion
it turns mpegs into streaming format, and many other working formats for intensive editing

hope this helps

to stream movies you need to have a media server installed. Currently there are two free ones and a bunch of others. Microsoft's streaming server can handle wmv, asf but you need to run a Microsoft web server. Or you download Real Media Server. They offer a free version for up to 20 simultanous connections. It's handling .ra clips. Apple offers a streaming server for quicktime movies.
