I believe www.xpirin.com was the first, it has been around for a long time.

Nima,

if you really want to run your site like teeniefiles.com, you better be prepared for alot of additional work.

Some things to consider:

1. Letting your submitters crop + process your thumbnails will not work. You will want thumbs that have the same style, like a certain body part (face, tits, ass, pussy or whatever).
You will want them also to have a certain quality, not over compressed, but also not so big to save some bandwith.

Basicly you will have to do it yourself or have somebody doing it for you.

2. You will have to update your site everyday, EVERYDAY or it will not work.

3. These sites use server resources like there is no tomorrow
Last week I had times with 50.00 or more load averages on my server.
The problem is, you will need 3-4 updates or even more on the mainpage to make this design productive. That makes 1 visitor alone requesting 100 or more requests to your server.

Just something to think about before you start changing your site without beeing prepared

Dan S, I've thought about this before.. why not run thttpd seperate to apache on say port 85, and have it serve all the images? You're load averages should drop heaps.

http://www.acme.com/software/thttpd/

keyman,

that sounds very interesting....

I upgraded the server just now. But it would still make sense.

So it is possible to server the html like its done now and use thttpd to server the images?

Yeah, you can set thttpd up to serve from a different sub-domain (if you have a spare IP address) like, img.myserver.com, or just have it serve from a different port than apache.

Set the thttpd root directory to your current image directory say, /home/me/www/images then change your image locations in the html:
or

The images would be available on both web servers, as they share the same path.
same as

Only difference being the first one is served by apache and the second is served by thttpd, depending which url you use.
