Hello Again.

I have a question, but first allow me to explain some things.

I am no doubt at preschool level when it comes to the Adult Biz/ By Adult Biz I mean the providing of Adult Content online. I am also pretty dumb when it comes to providing anything online. So I have lots to learn.

I know that the Phat Cash is in Multiple Niche sites. I read the Million dallar plan. Build 100 sites, market em, rinse and repeat till you die of old age.

I don't want a million dallars if it involves the maintance of so many sites nor do I want to be a Porn king with 1000's of sites under my belt that require my attention. Not today anyways.

I am just building a Personal Page. On it will be a few cool things that I like and want to toy with. Like my Message Boards and the flash Movies I am learning to create.
I hope that one day the site will pay for itself, or maybe even turn enough profit to allow me to expand a little. But i am contnet with just having my own CGI bin, MySQL, and Perl to play with and learn from.

On to my question.

I have the ability to deliver DVD feeds from the comfort of my members area. No, to put correctly would be to say my Host provides a Plugin (link to their pages) that offers it. Problem is how to charge for it?
My Host wants to charge 250 bucs to get setup with iBill and i honestly have no clue what that means. LOL
I know iBill allows me to accept credit cards on my site. Which is cool. But i don't understand what fees are involved or how it works.
Basically, I want to setup the members area soon. When people get access to it, i do not want them to have complete freedom to stick around and watch every DVD available. My Bandwith will go through the roof.
So I am wondering how I can charge by the minute if they use the DVDs. I would think it is not possible, but thought I should ask.
I would ask my host but they have the natural ability to state the obvious and avoid the question. Last email I sent them had 4 different detailed questions and my reply was summed up in 4 words. So i need to find my answers elswhere.

Any Info on how to charge pay customers would be helpful.
Thanks

the "million dollar plan" generally involves building 'em and forgeting about 'em.

i know a LOT of webmasters that find a niche that they can successfully market - which is NOT always the same niche you enjoy personally - and that is the only niche they work for a living.

i am wondering whether the mindset that would lead a person to want a "personal" page would lead one to working the site like a business. sure, there are a few BIG sites that started that way, but these days i don't see any starting up that succeed.

wanting to share pics you like with people *might* be good for bookmarkers if done right. but i compare your personal site to public access on cable. anyone can have a show of their own, but the money is on the networks, where the marketing department isn't even involved with the show development.

you haven't really experimented with what it costs in terms of bandwidth to have members use your feeds. it may be less than you think. also there is the question of what you pay for bandwidth per gig. lots of sites run enormous feeds and still make a profit off monthly memberships, and those rebills add up.

sounds to me like the solution to part of your credit card problem is to go with a different host one that answers questions.

"that million dollar plan" works if you're willing to invest months after months into this industry. The adult biz is the lowest now then it ever has been, and even when I got in a year and a half ago, everyone said I'd never make any money.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but there's a big learning curve, and then after literally months of hard work, the economy is suffering so hard you may still not make any money.

Just to warn you.

You'll make money if you use trial and error. About a month ago this day, I started in this biz doing Asian TGP galleries (that's what I still do today). 30 days ago, I was making about $5 a day. Today is my best day yet. I so far have made $60 and will most likely close the day with somewhere around $100 in profit. With this money, I can buy a host and make more money!

To be successful, you have to enjoy what you are doing and know how to do it. Don't get pissed off and give up if your latest site design is making money. Just start from a clean slate and try again. SEE -- not copy -- what other sites are doing for they may be doing it correctly.

-eru

My first guess is that you bought some porn flicks and riped them because we all know DVD licenses arent cheap. So if thats your plan you should pack up and head home now before you get sued or put in jail. I just let you know ahead of time so if you do own a license to distro no problem.

Secondly ibill will set you up you dont need to pay the host jack shit they are ripping you off. If you had questions or need a path for the setup the host should not charge and to setup a script $100-150 is average and fair.

Once you are ready to setup call ibill and speak with them and find out directly from them what you need to do. If you want a complex system where you pay to view each video your looking at some very expensive programming.

Hope this helps a bit

The Million Dallar Plan thing was on one of the Articles st the Webmaster Sites, like Webmaster magazine or Ynot, I don't recall.

The DVD feed thing is provided by my Host XXXWebHosting. The link they give leads to their XXwebhost Banner pages with a nice selection of DVDs to choose from. I can just go there now and watch all i want but they will charge me for the Bandwith used.

I did more research ( i swear i have done nothing but reseacrh this and that and do web sdesign) anyway i did some more research and learned a lil bit about what Toker Brought up.

I think I understand it now. You sign up with iBill and you are set for Credit card accepting, then you need a CGI script to use on your servers that allow member signups, lead to credit billing and then allow you to monitor members, set limits on how long memberships last and all that.
The question about DVD feeds was again answered by Toker. The by the minute thing would be expensive to script as it is a complicated thing to monitor.
My guess would be that the script I need ois what XXXwebhosting is charging 250 for.
If so It may be worth it. Get a script that Handles all the member joining, credit billing and member administartion as well as a script that can create accounts set to expire at a certain time (3 day trial) and charge by the minute when certain feeds are linked into.

If so i will consider it, if not I will just get one of the scripts i saw at http://www.hotscripts.com. There was one called Locked Access or something like that. 100 bucs and sounded nice.

Anyone know of any good Member/ibill scripts for member management?

thanks for the all the replies guys.

Oh I forgot to mention

I am not concerend with traffic at all. I actually would prefer not to get too much of it.

I am very confident about what I am doing. I intend by around for a very long time. If I don't make money, I will start doing things to save it.

I think I am going to succeed. I believe it with all my heart. I also believe it will take some time.

I have spoken to people who say they are making 5 bucs a day, or only making a handfull of sales after being in the biz a month to 4 months. Like thats not so good. Sounds nice to me.

Business is about Statistics, Levels and Phases.
I can't say much about the Adult Biz, but I do know a lil bit about business.

When I feel I am ready, i will request my host to submit me to 3600 search Engines. A service I get from them for free the first time and 10 bucs thereafter. Not sure if that is a good deal or not.

I need to educate myself more.

When i get around to submitting my site, that will start phase 2. The Hard part, marketing.

Sorry about the spelling errors, i'm stoned.

Love ya

You're not concerned with traffic and you would rather not have much? Damn buddy, head for the hills now
All the ambition in the world isn't going to make anything a success..you need at least ONE special skill and if you think you are going to get a shit load of traffic by your host submitting to search engines, you're very confused lol...not knocking you but there is more to it then just "i can do it" and a few simple search engine submittions

Yea I know. Traffic is the key to success. But I think my Business plan will generate enough traffic on its own.

I see it like this.

this is my home. I am building it on a street off the main road. What visitors I get will have plenty of reasons to stay.

Let me put it like this. Is the Niche Market Saturated, competition overkill?

There once was this guy who had a crazy Idea. He was going to sell books online. He invested everything into it and he belived he had something special.

Know, Imagine how much more successful he would be if he had a Top grade Porn site attached to Amazon.com.

I am exploring a different market. Thats all. I hope I succeed but if I don't, at least I had Fun.

your plan seems a bit complicated for your first endeavor.

Why not try several things then choose the one you seem to have a knack for ?

spend $250 on some content and make some avs sites, and some free sites, see which makes you more money ? Then repeat the process. Start out small and simple, then grow.

What i'm trying to say here is that if you shoot for the stars right off and fail you might just give up. either way good luck
