Long time reader, first time poster... http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, I was wondering what the various traffic trade scripts such as UCJ-C use to determine uniques? Do they use cookies/IP address or both? Do they let the cookies expire or delete the IP after time or is a returning visitor considered a raw hit forever more?

This leads me to my next question - how do the scripts deal with proxies i.e. multiple surfers using the same IP (such as AOL) or surfers without cookies enabled? I know some proxies use the X_FORWARDED_FOR header but do any of the script use this?

TIA

Basically they do one of two things, either throw out the hits, or count them all as uniques http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
