I am purchasing a dedicated server soon, and was just wondering if you guys could recommend some good tutorials for a total newbie.

The server will most likely be red hat linux running apache. I'd like tutorials that describe daily and basic managment chores.

1. grab some home pc, and play with it
2. read boards
3. then some books/manuals/tutorials can help

If you are a newbie, do not buy dedicated server. It is not that easy at all. Installation should be without problems but regular upgrades, security monitoring is pain in as*. Control panels can do a lot of work but no system is perfect. You can get managed server for the price of dedicated machine + $250/month. If you consider most places charge between $50 - $120 per hour, it is a bargain.
When your technical skills grow, you can switch to (cheaper) semi-managed, and then dedicated solution.

You can go buy redhat for like $60 in the store and it comes with tons of software in the bundle as well as a book. You also get 30 days support free once your register so its totally worth it to buy a copy.

HEre is my opinion on this. If your making money with your websites...and not really going to resell space on your server. You are WAY better off getting managed hosting, and letting someone else worry about keeping your server running. Trust me ...If you go it alone you will end up tweaking stuff, reading, learning all the time and not have time to run your business.

Dedicated deals
