I've got a good converting 'niche' site with a fair bit of traffic from google and a few other SE's.
Is the $600 price tag to get a listing worht it?

flick,
Is yahoo good traffic? of course it is, however, you need to read more closely. The $600 does not guarantee you a listing with yahoo, it only guarantees that they will review your site within 48 hours (maybe 24, look it up), and they will send you a response telling you if it was accepted or not. Nothing more. So is it worth $600? you will have to determine that, but at least be aware of what the $600 is going to get you, and a listing is not it.

I guess what I am saying is this:
I have no clue how to go about making sites for a search engine. I have a list of keywords that I have gathered from Goto, Wordtracker, DMOZ and other sources.
I can't compare paying $600 to Yahoo v. Google unless there is some methodology for optimizing for Google.

Getting on google is pretty easy, you just need patience.
Post your site on my top 100 list and you'll get google, lycos, aol and a few others.
Post it there and wait - you'll get the traffic if you can wait about 4-5 weeks.

the best way to get listed on google, is to trade links (not traffic) with other sites. They are based primarily on link popularity, that is, how many other sites have links back to you.
one point that should be made clear, yahoo is not, I repeat, is not a search engine.
They never claimed to be a search engine, and yes there is a difference between a search engine and a site directory. Yahoo is a site directory, organized by category.
Still good traffic, but By submitting your site via Yahoo! Express, ($600) you only ensure that Yahoo! will consider and respond to your suggestion on an expedited basis.
There is no guarantee you will be accepted, because they are not a SE, so they pick and choose who they want to list.

My understanding is that if Yahoo reject your site, you are told why and given the opportunity to rectify any problems.
I don't foresee any problems in getting listed.
What I really want to know is how well the traffic converts from Yahoo compared to other SE's and is it worth spending $600.
I know Yahoo will bring good traffic, but, is that $600 worth of traffic going to convert as well, better or worse than Google for example.
I already have Google and others. Is Yahoo still the SE to pull the best conversions?
It used to be..but things change.

LOL,, i don't think the google spiders script outlinks,,hehe,,,your actual link needs to be listed there,,,
link pop is arithmetic is pretty complex,,
its best to have several domains on differnt ip's,,
by differnent they would have to even be on different IP blocks,,,
the best way to get listed on google is to submit to DMOZ.org
once listed there,,
you'll get hits from google,yahoo,AOL
and several other engines,,,
also try to make a good web page with many links and manually submit them to the google engine and let them get spidered,,,
try not to submit each page but just the main link page only,,,you'll get listed higher when your site gets spidered in rather than manually submitted

also i remeber reading an article last year about yahoo listing,,
its worth it if you got a good paysite,,
the domain listed on a higher portion of the alphabet "A B C"
than you can prolly make close to 20k a year just from that listing

If you have multiple domains, yes, of course, provide links to all of them, on all of your sites. Why would you not? That would be pure insanity to not. However, unless you own 100 unique domains you are screwing yourself to not go out and trade links with everyong, big or small that will do a link trade with you. I do not know how long you have been around, but there usewd to be these things they called web-rings, there are still some out there, these are great for link popularity. I have great ranking on one of my domains with google, and I never submitted to them or dmoz ever.
Flick, yes, if Yahoo rejects your site, you are told why and given the opportunity to rectify any problems. This is still no guarantee that they will ever list you, think what you want, contact yahoo and ask them. They promise nothing, depends what you bring to the table, like if you have a niche that they do not have 1000 other sites already listed, maybe, if you have a nice site they will list you. Maybe.
As far as yahoo traffic converting, or google traffic converting, you can not blame it on a SE if you have a for crap site or for crap sales technique. And yahoo is not an SE.

I have played the game with yahoo and still have some sites on their and if you look at the numbers you will see just how hard it is to get listed and screw them over like you would think.
the submission price doesn't guarantee you anything. If they reject you, yes you get another shot but they will give you generic non personal answers and once you appeal thats it. Every site I had rejected never got accepted upon appeal.
They have been adding adult sites for years and paid submissions for atleast a year and a half.
Now look at how many sites are listed in yahoo and how often a new one is listed. Most categories have less than 200 sites total and some with less than 100.
Yet they literally get hundreds of submits/day for atleast the past few years since people have made money from adult sites.
So they are simply not listing sites, not even a fraction of a 1% of the submitions they get.
What happened to me is a long time ago I had a bunch of sites in their and they weeded out most of the sites I had because I had multiple sites in the same category even with different content. So my money was gone just like that and they can yank it just like that whether you paid or not.
They aren't like an avs, adding new sites for every site they see with different content. They have a handfull of sites in categories for their users but are stingy as hell.
If they did that though they would have thousands of sites in each category with all the unique content out their.
So anyways all I have to say is good luck on getting your site in. Some slip through the cracks but the only ones that should get through have unique content with a nice domains name.
Also if you think you can spam with the a letters and #'s in your description and your site is sloppy and doesn't go with the name, again I would say good luck.
