Okay fine. I've removed the above screenshot. If I was able to edit the post it would look a little nicer. Now it's a broken screenshot in a topic about broken images lol

Heh well this is royaltees faithful host :)

Due to his enormous growth the server just ran out of resources. Basically our software was rnuning beautifully, handling 850,000 uniques/day with 50% cpu usage, but freebsd started to deny connections.

Anyhow we did some kernel tweaking and was able to narrow down the problem, to freebsds nonstandard way of handling the listen() command. When we set the incoming queue size, freebsd disregarded it.

Long story short all should be fixed now, let me know if there are still any problems.

Caching gets enabled on wednesday, which is our new technology to MASSIVELy speed up loading of pages. His freehost should be the fastest host, free or pay on wednesday. :)

All this growth in less then a week, i think he needs a pat on the back! :)

I think it's very good what you are doing. I just started and I don't have money to pay for a host, your service is very helpful. Rock on brotha, and may the profits roll your way soon. :)

Oh yah guys... Things are looking like they are all resolved no bugs found in past hour... Keeping fingers crossed...

"When we set the incoming queue size, freebsd disregarded it."

so it was then dropping the hits when they came in, rather than just timing out? i thought after the listen queue hits SOMAXCONN that connections just time out or get connection refused or something - not connected and then dropped.

basically, as a freebsd user, i'm really curious what happened. :)

It wasn't accepting connections at all. The webserver was set not to do keep-alive so each image is a different connection. Its done that way for speed more then anything.

Anyhow freebsd was rejecting the connections at kernel level, our program never even saw them. When you call listen you pass it the amount of connections to keep in its accept queue. It disregarded that number.
