Hello, I was just curious, how much money do you make compared to how much you pay in taxes, much appreciated. I make 15k a year, and I pay about 1500 a year in taxes...

regarding "The average American earns 22,000 dollars a year" - where did you get that figure? it's sad but $22,000 is now officially below poverty level if you have any dependants.

you should pay about 1/3-1/4 of your income in taxes, but then there are all those handy deductions like your content, your server bills, etc. most webmaster i know are paying about 1/8-1/12

desipapa, most people get paid by check from one company - they're employees - and that company reports their income to the irs. it isn't an option whether to report it or not.

even in our case, all our income is paid by check, and our bank reports the total deposits.

You can get paid directly to your offshore bank account and you don't have to pay any taxes. You could have credit card and use all this tax free money in your country without any problems.

nasko

Smart webmasters don't pay taxes. It's damn easy to hide your income, because you can receive your money wherever you want.

With all the legal loop holes available to corporations there is no reason to cheat on your taxes and still keep a lot of your money.

Plus you will sleep well at night.

Believe me the IRS is going hard after offshore stuff. Personally I love the thought of putting all my money offshore and I have been looking into diversifying but if I am spending anytime in the pen it will be for killing someone, not cheating on my taxes...LOL

Peace,
LD

WEll IMO if you try to fuck Uncle Sam here in the US you are crazy. As a webmaster you have all sorts of deductions such as computers/hosting/content and other fees or services. So these things can really lower your taxes. The best advise I can give::::::::::::::Get a good CPA they are worth their weight in gold

Shane

Dont pay taxes then you will be wondering why the state or city is broke and cant pave the new roads or build new schools ect..

Theres a reason we pay taxes like to have money when we retire and to have nice nice places to live. When you dont pay your taxes the next honest guy has to foot the bill for your bullshit and that aint fair. I think its pretty fucked up to sit on here and brag about how easy it is to not pay taxes.

Hopefully when your old you will have shit and be eating out of dumpsters because thats what you deserve.

taxes suck especially if you live where I do.....They "follow the old commonwealth" what another country does they have to follow....just an excuse to raise taxes if not raise the taxes that are hidden ie license fees or a fee for this or that.it sucks big time....considering our country's population.....I don't know what is wrong with them !!!!they suck up to all the old countries....that are too small geographically but over populated .....now their biggest trade partner & neighbour ....it appears they do everything in their power to ignore them .....I really believe it is jealousy ...& that is the bottom line. It is sad though because if the 2 countries were united .....still separate but united in policies the world(at least in our countries) would be a better place

Myself I made less than what Bass chick says is the poverty level but still have to pay taxes....
for last year....there is something wrong there!!!

Dru Hix, i work with a canadian webmaster... taxes there are pretty high if you are a business.

twobitsgirl, that is the official poverty level in the u.s. - it may not be applicable where you are. and you can make far more than $22,000 a year as an adult webmaster...

I think if the government(congress) would cut the constant bullshit and stop pork barreling, sucking money from the budget for unnecessary constituent hometown projects(waste) and keep their own books straight people wouldn't have these kind of strong feelings. Or at least reasonable people wouldn't. Most people do realize that taxes need to be paid for a society to function.

Did you know that the IRS cannot account for over 2300 laptops that have been stolen... THAT'S OUR MONEY!!!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a thread about savings on taxes. It's smart business, it's smart living and anyone who just pays all their taxes blindly when they could be taking deductions is NUTS!

Everyone had the choice what to do with his business. There is nothing wrong to use offshore companies for big projects. All big investors, mobile operators, big internet companies, etc use offshore. If not all, the most use offshore companies. It's not like cheating your country, you just operate your business under offshore country jurisdiction.

The offshore isn't for small webmaster who wants to hide his 100 bucks day. When you go to offshore you should have lawyer, offshore consultant and much money.

nasko, sorry to break it to you but you are bound by the tax laws where you LIVE, not where you go and make up shell corporations, as far as the US Govt is concerned.

The old trick with an offshore account and a debit card doesn't work any more, since nearly every island in the Caribbean gives up all kinds of information to the IRS currently.

Someone else made the comment that you couldn't live a lifestyle above your apparent means without the IRS wanting to see how you are doing it, especially when you pay some taxes and file a return.

Best thing to do is get a good accountant, and if you're making enough money to worry about what you pay in taxes, you should have no problem affording the accountant's bill...

in canada, from what i know, if u bring money into the country ur suppose to claim it. u might be able to get away with a company car. but for a house or things of that nature its a no no.

i'm assuming its about the same in the states.

You do what you want play the system they will let you get away for 3-4 years while they let interest build. Then you get hit with back taxes, fines, interest fees and possibly jail time.

Much better to consult with a legal advisor then some guy named nasko who tells you on AWI not to pay taxes.

The only thing that I know it works is:

You make an offshore company, you get yourself a small monthly payement, as an employee, you pay your taxes for that. And you also pay your taxes for your offshore company, lets say in the Bermudes.

Then you buy everything under the name of your company...if the IRS asks you where you get that from, you say that its a promotion from the business you work from...

It works god for canadian, since they normally have to pay a lot of taxes...

Even Paul Martin does that (minister of finance of canada)

There are a lot of ways to set yourself up offshore. It's actually pretty common. As a webmaster, however, if you really want to setup offshore and pay no taxes and not have to worry about the IRS or Revenue Canada, then you'll have to give up your residency. That way you will never worry about the IRS or anyone else coming after you for unpaid taxes. Just don't get sick down there
