goto.com blows. At least in my experience they have. I used them on a game site I that sells video games and i only payed them about 250$ to try them out and i got about 8,000 visitors from them and only 3 sales from them. Maby they have better conversions for porn.. i dont know.

GoTo has excellent conversions for me. Most people I've encountered could not make a profit from them, but I have done really well with them.

I've been studying pay per click search engines very closely. Here is what I have observed (I'm just a novice though).
There are three things that people are doing to "ensure" their failure in the ppc market before the surfer ever even visits the site.
Poor use of the title. A lot of the titles don't even reflect what the surfer searched for. Try searching for a niche and see what unrelated stuff you get.
The descriptions aren't very well thought out. Also a lot of them don't reflect the searched term. The great thing about a search engine is that you can target the market you are looking for.
A lot of people aren't paying close attention to their bid amounts. There are huge gaps in some categories. Look at books for example. The top ones are owned by big companies, but there are other examples out there that you can see.
This is before the surfer ever sees your site. Some of the sites have really shitty content too. If you are going to spend a lot of money on a ad campaign, make sure some of that budget goes to buying quality content.
I am not surprised that a lot of people fail. But that is a givin in any business though.

Your right on Bean. I have helped at least a dozen webmasters here on AWI try to improve their turnovers, and its nice to see how they've matured from novices to their state now in ppc advertising. I guess most people are looking for a fast and easy way into this market and there just isn't one. Its an overpopulated market that's getting more crowded, so its the survival of the fittest.
