Guys... I wanna know if this is possible...

what I wanna do is set up an action file that would do the following..

the goal is to have a finale thumn of 110X150 for example...

the process would be like this..

it would resize to EITHER 110 in width or 150 in height, WHICHEVER will give an excess width or height....

then that excess pixel will be cropped...

so basically, it will do this

Resize to 150 height
check if width lower than 110

if lower,
UNDO
resize to 110 width
crop to 150 height
save
close

if not lower
crop to 110 width
save
close

that's basically what I need...

If it can be done in Photoshop, please let me know..

if Not, and you know of another program that could do that, and that could save it without compressing, that'd be nice..

let me know if any of you guys have ideas...

ThumbsPlus, you cannot get it at http://www.smalleranimals.com
It was shareware a year ago or so, but I don't know now. Anyway, this program rocks and does what you need without need of batch files or any kind of shit, just check what you want and voila!

Sorry, the name of the program is Thumbnailer, I checked the address and new version has lots of cool features and a free download! I'm downloading it right now http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey,

If i understand you correctly you
want your thumbs to be the same with and
height regardless of the original, ie. some
pics are wide and some are tall and the
gallery will look like crap if they are...

Arles can do that, just tell it
to lock the aspect ratio and crop to the
width and height you want. It can also
do that to the big pix.

Mag, i had the same problem, to get around it i used fireworks (would work in PS though i am sure) and worked out what percent of the original file would make those widths...

then set the script to resize based upon %.

rich, you can't resize based on %, since the loads of files are not all the same dimensions... just the same final dimensions...
thumbsplus is not able to do that, I'm affraid...
I'll check it out lizard, thanks..

thx harvey... I believe thumbnailer can't do that, but I'll check it..

yep, thanks a lot arles :-)

it's almost exactly what I needed...

the job is a bit less satisfying than with Photoshop, but it crops exactly like my little photoshop action file was doing, except all automated..

and if I wanted same quality, I could always run arles, save at 100% quality, run photoshop batch on them to sharpen, and then reduce size with the batch in thumbsplus...

but I'll trade the bit of quality boost for the immensly time saving arles :-)

yeah, its a great little program.

Dont know if you have found it yet, but
you can sharpen the thumbs and some other
stuff under 'Edit/Advanced thumbnails'

yep, I know...

I reffered to photoshop's sharpen tool beeing better, quality wise, and thumbsplus' size compression beeing better..

well, for my use , I mean http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

but arles does a great job still http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

It would be awesome if a new version
had support for PS plugins, that would
rule!
