HI,

I am going full-time webmaster status next month and from past experience when I was a full-time webmaster a few years ago I sat in the house all day and didn't get much work done. Anyone who is renting office space give me a estimate on a 1person office would run per month?

thx
kingping

it really depends on where you're located. around here in los angeles, you can get a small office with cleanup and parking for $350 a month - you pay utilities.

on the other hand, if you can't work at home, it could be that people keep bugging ya or it might be a motivation problem. if it's motivation, an office won't change that.

If its motivation just tape a hundred dollar bill to the top of you moniter as a reminder.

how bout the thought that your ass could be living in a homeless shelter because you were too lazy to do your webmaster work and didn't earn enough money to pay your bills

I work from home, and it's why I like to do some of my work, at night, and some, late at night...

House is quiet...

And you have no excuses to give if you're caught surfing some " adult " websites, wich is not my problem.

But I like it.

Home sweet home, you're own boss, own schedule, and...of course the key is...

If you like what you do, you don't really need extra motivation.

Voila!

Mav

working at home is horrible. Is it just me, or whenever you turn on the t.v. for a few minutes, you end up watching the next 5 shows that's on whatever station you have on. Regardless to whether or not the shows are any good or not? And damn, I take about 4 showers a day, just as an excuse not to do anything.

But then again, if you can't afford an office, just block out webmaster message boards, and you'll save just as much time

I have my office at home, I have a room just for it. I don't work in front of the tv. Only related stuff to work around me, the only entertainment is music, but it's because I need it to be creative and it's the air that I breath..

See ya

I feel the same and am considering getting an office as well. I'll be doing this full time in about 3-4 weeks but the problem with getting an office is everything goes up in price. Renting the space is not a problem, but then you gotta pay higher prices for phone lines, bandwidth, internet, etc. since its no longer home rates but business rates. On top of that, your more or less doubling your rent, a place to work (office) will cost you around $500 or so, and a place to live is whatever your paying now. I really want to get an office myself since I have a hard time focusing on work at home and I feel the need to see people rather than being home all day but I don't know if its worth the extra expense.

WG

i guess i'm just a happy workaholic - i don't turn on the t.v. when i could be developing a new site or helping beta test an interesting script ;-)

worrying about being broke doesn't motivate me. to me, adult webmastering is like this crazy videogame, and your stats are the score.

Hi,

I'm working from home too ... I sleep in the same
room as I work, and i spend most of my time in
here. Sometimes it makes me crazy beeing in this 4 walls, then i go driving my car, or to my gf etc... that's my relaxing. Everytime when i'm at home, i can't take my hands of my computer .
TV ... well i don't like talk shows at all, and when i really like to watch a movie, I have a TV card, so i can watch the movie in a small window, and work at the same time. It's really great.

But I don't think it's the best solution as for now. I would like to have one room alone to work, some kind of office, but within my house.
And about motiviation ... well you need to decide. You choose the self-employee way, and you are your own boss, you do what comes into your mind, work on your own bill, and take all the responsbility ... and you can make a lot of good money, and decide when you work (at night, or in the day) ... or you go the employee way, and work your 38.5 hours per week and get paid this loose salery, with which you can only pay your bills and have 2 tickets to cinema
It's on you to decide. If you have a problem
with motiviation, then i would highly recommend you to get a job at some company.

greetings
efp

My office is pretty near my home, I just walk for 3 or maybe 4 minutes and I'm here.
I love to work here, but we bought a 21" flat TV (no cable yet), heh.

These days I'm a bit stressed (last year advertising college project and some personal problems) so I really need motivation. I'll print some phrases that usually makes me "back to work" and keep the paper near the computers.

Jer

I think it would be good for me just to get out of the house a few times a week, I can still laugh at people who have real office job's... They will probably hear some strange noises coming from my office.
