Guys I installed this proggie to see what happens ... I can't see anything exept 3 bookmarks ... so what is the deal?

I read the terms that explain everything what this software is gonna do with your computer. There is a link to an uninstaller and it works properly.

IMHO it is the fault of the user if he doesn't read the terms and installs it.

I am pretty sure that if this guy would find a better way to promote it like paying a dollar or so per installation there would be a lot of people who are interested in that.

No I am not affiliated with this guy so don't bash me I just don't see the point why it is so bad. It is just another way to promote paysites. We all know that the industry is not doing well and that the promotion has to become more aggressive.

However from the moral point of view it is the same like getting paid per collected email which spams the user after wards ... nobody complains about that.

Actually its a totally unethical way to compair the two email can be thrown away its gone wont be back no worrys. Now you take an exe file that does more then just add 3 bookmaks trust me on that i have seen the code.

He admitted to me on ICQ that it will set the page and according to him he can switch the function on and off like a lightbulb. Furthermore if he so happened to lose his host or domain changes whatever if they cant get that remover the surfer is fucked.

The remove should have been packed with the original install period!!

Secondly he admits to allowing anyone over 13yrs of age to view his shit (porn video he claims). Which is illegal in just about every state in the US and many other countries. Its also hard coded into the packed installer if i do recall not quite shure but i know for fact it was on his website.

Unethical, Illegal, Bad for this industry period!!

Fuck the guy even offered me a JOB then when i refused asked me if i wanted to use his dialer..Sheesh!!

Now it seems some people see a negitivity in me and have expressed that fact. No its not that im always thinking negitive its that shit like this hurts us all (including me). I have friends in the ISP industry as well as hosting and so many are backing away from porn more so every day.

My time is worth money yes so is my work but i do try to give a little back especially to those who have helped me in this biz. I think they can tell you i do everything i can to pay my debts no matter how big or small they may be.

If i found a sponsor who pays i will always speak up and let others know and if i find a company doing bad things im not gonna keep quiet. Its not in my nature to stand down when faced with challenge and i will expose any dirtbag i come across.

This board is an outlet for adult webmasters to work togeather and be productive which is what i try to be myself. For those who read this post and feel a need to flame me GFY im not the asshole you need to look in a mirror.

now, this software is annoying, I have good uses for my 404, and I don't want to have a popup loading out of nowhere.

How about this,surfer is at your site, he makes a mistake or the popup comes... then you lose him... multiply this x(traffic you have) and you're screwed.

Think about it twice, even Micro$hit had to change some characteristics in IE6 that were going to do things really similar to this one (a little bit more agressive, though...)

Yes, the industry is bad, and promotion has to become more aggressive, but this is not Agressive Promotion, this is ramming a product down a person's throat. Agressive promotion is about text that really sells, and about thinking outside of the box, you cannot sell a paysite membership by slapping a banner in a page anymore, you have to think about what you're doing, read and learn, and never be too lazy that it won't let you think about why your layouts won't sell.

Btw. I agree that this software is a peace of crap! But I honestly don't think it's THAT "dangerous". Sure, of course he should have an uninstaller included in the software. And not requiring the surfer to download it themselves, that should be required. And of course, it IS possible to remove it without it, everything is.

But I don't think people downloading this thing knows how to do that, since they probably are new to computers. And might not know how the reigstry works and stuff like that.

If he simply added an unstaller and told the user what to expect before installing I don't think it's bad at all.

Don't take me wrong, I think it is CRAP, showing advertisment, adding bookmarks etc. Just for showing a search page instead of the 404 error and a small video player.

Then of course, the part about letting minors use it, and promote it using XXX video is just stupid!

Ok I agree that how it is right now it is hardly to justify but just imagine they change it as you said then I see as a CJ webmaster a BIG opportunity for a new income.

This guy just wanted to go the easy way and get his software spreaded for more or less free he should rather pay for it and make a sponsor program maybe with recurring. e.g. for all installations I made I get a cut of the revenue additionaly.

When the dialer came out we all had pretty much the same discussion about ethics. Where have they gone now.

However you try to discuss this, if this guy is smart and do some modifications which are more user and webmaster friendly this will be a best seller

Hi Guys, I would be glad if we can calm down a little bit...I think the last idea was not bad and i really would like to think about it...you can download the software and read the disclaimer...the software doesn´t do anything I don´t tell the user before. It is 100% user friendly. EVERYTIME the user gets my 404 Site he has the possibility to uninstall the software if he doesn´t want to keep it on his computer. I don´t force to keep it and it is 100% his decision. I also don´t really understand what the word aggresive has to do with this kind of advertising. It is just another way of advertising.
Perhaps you should give the idea a chance.

Keep in mind people he could modify the thing remotly to do whatever he wishes unlike a dialer as he stated. He is "not using" what options are fully available well he already says he can change the homepage remotly. So what other hidden features are available in this server which also by the way analizes cookie data on your system.

Well if it's a 3 second video clip, it can easily be 150k.

Second, I've seen many legitimate companies using these so called "free plug ins" as a methd of advertising.

Like it or not, it's not illegal if it has a disclaimer much in the same fashon as a dialer.

Also a dialer may have more content, but it's not free. It costs anyway from $3 per minute to $8 per minute.

Well the program i found in the windows dir confirms a match with the icon on his uninstall and basically all it does is add some registry keys add the bookmarks which btw the uninstall does not remove the bookmarks and it never did any 404 shit for me. But the search sites it bookmarks carry his affiliate ID so basically all this thing really does at this time from what i have seen by trying it out is set 3 bookmarks and open with a 3sec video clip whoopty fuckin doo daa....Im so impressed with all that great shit i would find anyway with MSN autosearch feature or with one of the other search links preloaded in the browser.

And no a 3sec clip is more like 20k with no sound and crappy quality i looked at a high quality of 4sec with no sound it was only 98kb and crystal clear. So you have the strait up facts now use them as you wish and i have made my point its BS ragardless.

It should be 18 years or older.

I'm not sure who made that program, but there are others like it that do the same thing and they were developed by legitimate companies.
