Ok I am wanting to get another Dedicated server. Right now I am running on Cobalt RAQ's. Which I love because they are SO EASY to use. All web base admin. Next my question......Can a total dumb ass (me (= ) who knows nothing about telenet run a server that is not web based? A;; I would want to do is set up some of my sites. I do not need PHP or anything fancy. Just running a few link sites with S2 on them.

NEXT Does anyone know of anotehr server that is like the RAQ that it is all Web Base admin?

Lastly I know everyone has asked this and I have went threw the search but can you recomend a GOOD dedicated host that is QUICK on support?

http://www.dynamichosting.com no web based admin but they are usually pretty quick to add domains and stuff like that http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I know you can Install http://www.webmin.com/ on most linux servers, Its web based browser administration. I have seen some hosts who have it preinstalled, Its a pretty kickass program... You can set up cron, ect.., and is a hell of alot more functional than the RaQ Administration panel.

i run a regular linux server with webmin and its better than my raqs ever were. i use webmin for most things and telnet for a few. its not hard to learn. i also host at rackspace, and they are always there to help me with even the stupidest problems.

i let the techs do most of my admin - i figure they would hate to go in and fix everything after i break it!

and i have telnetted with no kind of knowledge at all except exact written directions.

oh & rackspace is in san antonio... so anytime i have major issues i drive down there and they are very, very good to me. and im a small guy. imagine if u were a big guy http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

let me know if u decide to go with them... ill send u as a referral then split the referral fee with you to help offset your initial setup costs. hahah http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Speaking on all the hosting in Cali.. are there issues with the rolling blackouts? Higher rates, servers going down? My server is in Florida.. 2 weeks now, no down time. I have alittle proggie that pings my server/sites every 2 minutes. Works pretty well for telling me if they are down.. always nice to know whats going on while you sleeping! =)

TT - how does the prg inform you if the server is down... I have a few machines I'd like to keep an eye on...

Don't forget dynamichosting servers come with FreeBSD not Linux, and I believe webmin is available for linux only or am I wrong here?

If anyone here is in need to get a server setted up top notch with perl, additional modules, php, zend, mysql, ftp, mail, ssh and a nice little script with which you can add domains your own easily, plus your own name servers on the same box, plus a script with which you can add subdomains to any domain just through adding a ordinary folder in the root of the domain (such as domain.com/folder/ will be folder.domain.com instantly) ..

...let me know. I know a guy who will set you up the server for just $45 per hour and it will take around 15 hours or so for everything. You will just provide a list with your domains and the old server/account details. He will transfer your stuff as well. He will then be available for support such as special stuff that the ehost can't/won't do.
