View Full Version : What is meant by image sourcing?
Hi everyone,
I am curious about something. I see in some posts, usually involving some sort of cheating or theft or such thing, sometimes the comment is made to "img src" the offending persons site.
What is meant by that?
I thought it meant something like hotlinking, but that doesnt make sense in the types of topics I have seen it used in reference to.
I am not figuring on using it on anyone, I was just curious what it means.
Thanks for your time
RMS :)
Correct me if im wrong but isen it when some one tries to link to you in a images and then the link trading program count it as a hit...?

Itis loading an entire site as images, when you have a big site yourself this will burn allot of the imgsrc site bandwith or even cause the server to crash

yep, its just putting the html page as the src for the image so the user downloads the html file but never shows it
can do major bandwidth damage, and its also a pretty shitty way to cheat cause you almost always get caught

This is image sourcing.
Say for example you joined a topsite and your topsite account url is http://www.topsite.com/in.cgi?porn
On your site you would put
<img src="http://www.topsite.com/in.cgi?porn" width=1 height=1>
This would be image sourcing your account. It would load the url in an image that is 1x1 pixel...
Most topsites now a days wont allow it and it wont work.
Also, This slows down your site and there site so its not a good idea.
You can image source anything you want to, not just an account to a topsite.
Thanks everyone,
That makes sense why it would cause such a problem for the target.
Like I said, I have no intention of using it, I have enough trouble without getting a rep as a cheater and a thief. Just wondered what it meant.
Thanks again, I appreciate the answer :)

try to img src somebody and you will even find out what is meant by saying "fucked up" :)
