Swap harddrives?

I need to backup a lot of files from my old computer to my new one.
I installed winXP on my new new one.
Can i just plugin the old harddrive to my new system and copy everything to my c: and the take it out and put back my secondary HD?

If it is just your user files there should be no problems doing that.
