I'm still fairly new to the bix, too. But I've gotten a lot of traffic from being listed with the Google and Lycos search engines (it's free). Also, try to get listed with Yahoo. They charge $600, but it's well worth it in terms of traffic. Yahoo is the most popular search site.

Another good method is to submit your site to adult website review services like janesguide.com, x3guide.com, and aaareviews.com. I get a ton of traffic from Jane's Guide. Beware, though, they don't automatically give everyone a positive review. If they don't like your site for whatever reason, they'll say so.

i doubt it if any of my sites would get a positive review. they're all made to make me money not help the surfer get off.

I've submitted to four adult review sites and I've gotten an excellent review from three and a decent review from one. Usually if they give you a lousy rating it's because you carry too much advertising (tons of banners and pop ups), or your navigation structure is too confusing or misleading, or your content sucks.
quote:
Originally posted by 'Plat:
How much traffic do you get from having a paylisting over at yahoo.com Hornication?

Well, I just got my listing at Yahoo about a week ago. So far I've been getting about 300 people a day off of it - not as many as I had hoped, but still worth $600/year when I consider the potential sales from it. I'm hoping it picks up more. In all honesty, Google is the best search engine to get listed in. It's totally free and they send me more traffic right now than Yahoo does.

thanx,

this has been quite usful. Hornication.com
said that you are getting more hits off of google than yahoo...how is it that you do this? i know meta tags are important but to get listed and get tons of hits requires some talent. can you perhaps lead me in the right direction to getting listed that well.

thank you,
seeded

Well I know for every page Google indexes, they store up to 100K of the data on that page (essentially the whole page since most web pages are far less than 100K). When someone searches for a couple of keywords, Google will rank your site based on your URL, your page title, and the data it has stored from the page. Yahoo ranks you on your URL, your page title, and the description of your site that you provided when you signed up with them, but this description is limited to 25 words. So basically you have an opportunity to pack a lot more keywords into your Google listing than Yahoo.
