Hi im looking for a host for my upcomming paysite, but i think its very hard to choose which company to go with..

Sofar i have looked at servint, interaid, dynamic hosting and also cologroup (they seem very cheap)

Right now im not sure how much BW im gonna use, approx 5-10mbit i think for the first months.. i have looked at their prices and they are very confusing..and there is quite a big gap between some of them so its hard to decide.

I am going to host movies on my paysite, so i guess my mbps usage could jump up/down very much..so 95 percintile sounds not so good?

I am not very Techie so iŽll need good support too.

And other Hosting companies, donŽt tell me to contact you, if you have a deal, show it here.

Jizar

Hi,

When it's for a paysite I would not go with cologroup. They have Cogentco BW, and cheap servers. I use it too, it's good for gallerieposting etc. But I would not use it when I need 99.99% uptime.

Take a look at www.datahosters.com they can help you out

Andre

Just for the record the prices we advertise are "not" managed servers and what is on our site is not yet updated for the dedicated packages.

Our current packages come with 1500GB or greater monthly bandwidth commitment only and we dont charge you anything for the server.

Price for the 1500GB is $.65/GB flat and we have 6 dedicated packages to choose from as low as $.40/GB. This is not Cogent bandwidth we only use Verio so dont let the price mislead you to think otherwise.

If you have any questions contact me.

I ll try to give you some hints here

dont take some 95 percentile billing methods as that is just bullshit and you are never sure how much you will pay in the end.
Choose a plan that allows you to pay for what you use - there are some good hosting companies that will agree on this with you if you talk to them.

Look after hosts that are hosting other paysites. I know that cwie.net and xxxwebhosting.com are hosting some big paysites.

Ask for contract prices - I bet you are not gonna do this for a month or so - many hosting companies are willing to give you a discount when you sign a long term contract. I managed to get about 40% discount with such a contract.

There are some sites rating hosting companies, this one for example : http://adult.tophosts.com/

Ask the host if there are any limitations on transfers - some hosts adopt this rule to protect themselves against sites that suddenly start to burn a lot of BW - this goes mainly for shared virtuals but its better to ask.

Choose a host with good support - probably a paid one - as you dont want to loose revenue due to some downtimes. You plan to run a paysite and probably an affiliate program aswell so you have to make sure your site is always up and running.

I hope this helped you a little bit.

Your figures are way off. You'll never use that much.

NEVER will you use that much for just inside the members area. Don't pre-buy so much bandwidth. Actually re-think about opening a paysite at all.

Did you ever consider a premium AVS? CSN, AgeOath, ProAdult etc...? I think you're seriously on the wrong track here. No offense, just trying to help you saving some money and headaches, really...

I am not a host, but I post movies. If you want send me a PM

Well we can off course help you, and we will beat any prices.

Some suggestions i have for you no matter who you go with are the following:

1. Check to make sure they have their own facility, buying space in someone elses hosts alot of people currently do. Basically if you need someone to fix your stuff you want them around all the time. Remote rebooters, and etc help out, but nothing replaces techs being 10 feet from your servers 24 hours per day. Also make sure they have full 24 hour support.

2. Check to make sure they have GOOD bandwidth. What makes bandwidth poor is the way their traffic is routed, their saturation points, t heir percentage utilization, their routes length to mutiple providers etc. AT&T, UUNET, GBLX, are your premium bandwidth providers. Followed by Level3, and Verio. On the very bottom of the list is Cogent, and most other tier1, tier2 providers fall inbetween.

3. Look for a host that has better then normal techs. You don't want some guy that sort of knows unix. Having solid programmers on staff helps alot, if you have a host that knows how to fix bugs in a kernel, then you can bet they will cover any problems you may have.

There are many more things to take into account, but maybe this will get you started. Also check how long they have been hosting. When you are talking about a paysite, don't go for the cheapest price. Thats usually the worst bandwidth. Paysites make ALOT of money in comparision to their bandwidth bills. If you are out looking for the cheapest prices, you can bet you are gonna have problems. Bandwidth isn't the only thing that costs money, SUPPORT costs money. The larger hosts can help eat these costs and still make your prices very low. The smaller ones, when they cut corners to make cheap prices, they have to cut corners someplace else, and thats usually with support.

Give me a hit up on ICQ if you have any questions. I hope you would give us a shot at your business, we will beat any quotes you have for comparible service.

Thanks alot guys, that was more the info i wanted IŽll contant you progGod too alter today.

Atahualpa: thats just great if my figures are ay off But i dont think so, lets say an average of 10 users on fast internet connections download movies at 100kb/sec 24/7 on my site then its allready a big deal of bw right?

Owning the facility and paying more for it does not mean better service. I was with hosting.com for almost a year paying $4/GB it took them 6 tries to setup an MX record on one of my domains. In the process which took 3 days and 2 phone calls/5 emails they lost my DNS records entirely on the 4th try.

I had many other issues FTP was always screwed up and when i needed anyting actually fixed i had to wait till 9am because the primary techs only worked 9-5am on weekdays. I was down just about every other day for 5-15 mins at a time so i guess owning the facility didnt make it much better for them.

This is a company with thousands of mainstream clients and multi level support which has been in biz for years. So dont fool yourself with this BS about higher price quality support its just a way to make more money in most cases.

I have records of all this saved emails and alerts to back every bit of this.

Hey Jizar II. If you are looking for a good hosting company then I am sure I can definitely help you out. I am affiliated with oxeo.com . Although our site is still in development (we are a relatively new company), our hosting is full blown. We also have a set of customized scripts that completely track your traffic, and bandwidth usage statistics. So far, we have no set in stone plans and prices so if you are interested, please contact me on either ICQ, or AIM.

ICQ: 707600
AIM: HoiDaKalen

Actually essentially GBLX froze all their creditors accounts. Basically they made their company so they have to pay no bills, and it allowed them to clean up their company without having to pay out the normal penalties it would take. For example they can fire employees that aren't helping them, drop contracts, etc, without any penalties.

Most of the Department of Defenses network is on GBLX so they aren't going anywhere. It was more of a legal manavure, so that GBLX east, can buy GBLX US.

We've been with Proggod for a while now and we're very satisfied. The prices are fair and their support is pretty good. Whenever there were problems, they fixed it in 15 mins, even if it was the middle of the night.

Any suggestions as far as hosts for a new site? I don't imagine the traffic will be too high in the begining. Realistically, I know it will take time to bring up the traffic. I don't want to get raped, and I don't want a free host. I have done a search here and read all I could find. I have narrowed the choices down somewhat, but still am unsure.

I know a few things for sure. I don't want any redirects, pop ups, dialers, or hot links.

Feel free to PM me, if you don't want to post here. I know how it goes on forums......

Thanks!
