I'd hardly consider this a lose for CEN. AOL settled this not won a court case against them....and it's interesting how CEN is owned by a "management" company now that's an LLC.

Most LLC management companies are owned by virtually invisible offshore corporations. Usually done as a tax shelter or additional protection from...you guessed it...lawsuits!

Somehow I have a feeling that the "damges" CEN had to pay weren't as large as AOL wanted them to be.

Frankly AOL can go fuck themselves. I don't think CEN did anything wrong.

If they really want to do something about spam, they should be contacting sponsors and give them the webmaster ids of the spammers spamming their service. Instead, it seems every complaint sent to them by their users seems to be unanswered.

Yeah, I hate AOL. They came after me claiming I sold spam related software. Bunch of idiots can't even tell the difference between hosting and selling spam software.

WG

They've known about that for years.

They knew some people spammed, and when they got complaints....they took care of the problem. However most AOLers didn't complain to CEN but rather to AOL.

However AOL didn't help one bit. If those morons at AOL want to help can spam, they could have forwarded the webmaster ids that spammed to CEN. Did they do that? No! Does AOL forward people that spam Candid Clicks? No! I have to find out through 3rd parties, which isn't always reliable so we have to waste time with investigations.

AOL wants to take care of spam? They should learn to communicate with the sposor better instead of waiting 2 years and then taking them to court.

I'm 100% behind CEN on this one, and I don't think they did anything wrong.

I'm behind CEN too. The press really put things out of perspective really siding with AOL. AOL more or less gave the portrayal that upper management knew of it and encouraged it. I don't blame the media for doing this, after all who would you rather believe, a porn company or a media conglomerate owned by Time Warner. It's unfortunate and I hope AOL leaves CEN alone.

WG

WG,

I think AOL is done with CEN. Netvision is no more, and now CEN is under a new company name. I believe the name is Net Management, LLC. or something like that.

I think CEN has well protected themselves now and is good to go. Best of luck to them.

Candid,

Yup, who knows who the parent company is. They have so many companies, SexCheck, NetMgt, Traffic Cash Gold, EmailBucks, EventuresNV, they're all pointing back to the same kingpins, but which company owns which and where its located are all up in the air. Probably intended to protect their assets and a great move.

WG
