Well just make sure you dont get a laptop with windows ME on it or if you do , format and install 98 or 2000. I've seen many HP laptops that mess up with ME.

I have seen many laptop/pc's anything with ME mess up.

I think I had ME for 20 mins when I got laptop, and then I could take no more 2000 had to go on http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you do get one with ME, dont even bother using it, just format and install 2k http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I bought a Gateway 9300pro series about a year and a half ago. Serves me well. My next laptop will be either a Sony or a Winbook most likely.

I concur about formatting out of Win ME. I have used NT 4 for about 3-4 years. I'd recommend Win 98-2 over ME. Win XP will be my next OS, not interested in 2000.

I also have a dell which i run Windows ME. I am very pleased with the way it runs. I have windows custumized for maximum useage. I can not say i have had a problem with it yet. What are some problems you guys are having with ME?

If you don't buy a Dell, you're asking for trouble. Buy a Dell and buy their three year extended warranty. I wouldn't even look at any other brand besides Dell. Their computers are far and away the best on the market.

Depends on what you need:
- You need it light & tight so you can carry it around everywhere: go sony vaio
- You need performance go Compaq (probably first time ever I've actually said something positive about compaq).

Dells are ok. But they're quite overrated, hence you get poor price/quality. (quality in itself is ok, but the price they ask for it is too high, IMHO).

Oh and if you buy a sony (I've a sony too) buy a Sony Z600-LEK with at least 128 memory.

Looks good. Nice screen. Performance suck http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Old dell laptops (such as mine, P2 266 etc) do get unpleasantly hot. I really mean that, they're impossible to hold on the lap. But I heared that new ones are ok. Go for dell.

Dells are good, sonys are good, or get one of the new G4 Macs running OS/x which if you didn't already know it. Is an awesome GUI on top of FreeBSD

Ahh, dont buy a DELL! You are paying for their TV Comercials and other Advertisments. I would suggest looking around on cdw.com at IBM (Thinkpad) and Toshiba (Satelite). They are the best value, and are supreme quality products!

Nobody mentioned Acer???
Had one for ages, gets a lot of work, they have a fix-on-the-spot or give you a machine to use while they fix yours (they swap hdd for you) service guarantee. I agree with all when they say ME sucks, on all machines, not just laptops. Had it, I now run win2k pro on my laptop and the increased performance, right down to battery life is very noticeable.

Good value for money was why I bought one.... lack of hassles is why I'd upgrade to another.

Upgrading components in the buggers is awfully expensive (at least down under), which is the only draw back to a tool I can't live without.

Go for a Hewlett Packard. I have a HP N5170 and it is a damn good notebook. Its very durable and has alot of really useful features like TV out and built in floppy and dvd (without switching). Plus their warranty service is excellent. I had a hard drive go out on it and they got fedex to overnight it from my house and overnight it back to me for free. I didnt have it for just 3 biz days. Just my opinion.

Jeez, I just typed www.cwd.com (http://www.cwd.com) instead cdw.com. Good place for adult webmaster to solve moral issues with own job http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif
