I contacted my local telco for a t-1 and they gave one price and then the add on for connectivity to the internet, if I am hosting do I need this or not?

yuor question isnt too precise, but from what i can gather, if you are using your T-1 for telco dialers of audiotext, then you pay phone call rates on that t-1, if you want any type of hosting, or any internet activity whatsoever, be it surfing, or hosting, upstream or downstream (internet requires both streams) you must pay the price for the connectivity....

synopsis, yes, if you want to host, you must pay the extra internet connectivity fee, that is most of the cost as im sure you now know =-)

he means telephone company...

I think he is asking...

Basically his telephone company gave him a quote for the actual line...and then I think they gave him a quote to give him the actual bandwidth with the line...

Right?

If that is it...I believe you rent a t-1 and rent how much bandwidth you want...

Actually its called a termination fee the telco is not an ISP they basically link you to a network they lease from and charge you for the loop.

Like in my area i have bellsouth and they are my ISP but i can get the Ts without termination cost from another broker althouh im forced to use my telco no matter what. I personally think thats a ripp off and they dont charge bandwidth when you have a capped line they know what the line will do and thats why Ts aint cheap.

My telco does not even own their own lines in half of their own territory they lease to cover more areas but those areas normally cost more.

My suggestion is to call some local ISPs in the phone book and get rates before making any consideraions and you will find its very competetive. The big guys will usually chagre you more since the smaller ISPs still buy more and get it cheaper anyway.
