Please excuse my ignorance... but what the fuck does a cronjob do?
Again dont laugh...but can on be not working properly?
Is it an either "works" or "doesnt work" sort of thing?

If you mean that a program that require a cronjob will work without one then is the answer no..
If you run UCJ without crontab or cronjob then it wont work.. Its a sort of code that runs every given time, for example every 2 minutes, every day etc....
Hope this clear it a bit

Yeah, im sort of thinking along those lines...Thanks for the info guys!
Ive been having some problems with my script. I was thinking that maybee there was a bug in there or somthing. The last time I had a problem, my sysadmin said he had to replace a crontab or job...somthing like that.
I just cant seem to send out enough traffic anymore. I used to be on fire, increasing by a lot every day. However now, my traffic just keeps dropping and dropping, and I cant figure out why. My script just doesnt seem to send out the correct amount of traffic. Ive always set my trades to 130-140% All my trades are giving me great productivity, and ive got a lot of bookmarkers to fill that 30-40% surpluss. So I would think that if a site sends me 1k I would be able to send out 140% of that....wrong! My outgoing traffic will stop at exactly what they sent..that's not what I want...I want to be able to send out more...to get more..to send more..to get more...ya see? :)
Cum on guys, help me figure this out! Drinks will be on me in VEGAS!!! :)

Well.. you can trade what you want and how youwant but if your cronjob doesnt work then all is fucked up...
It doesnt count incomming and outgoing traffic good or totally not..
And if your host isnt able to install a cronjob then its a damn bad host.. Installing a cronjob can be done in less than a minute..

are you sure that this is a conjob problem? its seems to me that its some kind of trade config problem.
if your script requres a cron and your cron isnt workin, then the script wouldnt work at all..
what script do you run? who installed it? if it wasnt you, perhaps you could check with the guy that did .. :)

Yeah, sounds more like a trade problem than anything now. Cause the script works...just not as well as it used to. So yeah, it's got to be somthing else.

A lot of hosts don't allow you to run your own cronjobs though. I guess that has nothing to do with your problem, but if you recently moved servers/hosts, that might be the problem right there.
We needed it too, but we weren't allowed, which sucks.

used correctly cronjobs can be great!
i have replaced several friends with cronjobs .. works ok, and they dont bitch about going to the pub..
why would hosts refuse cronjobs, I don't get it. Whatever cron does can be started manually, so what's the point not to allow?

Simple some hosts want no resources used up they prefer empty servers siting in empty racks. This way they can say truthfully "we dont oversell our servers". :D

gse, because many cronjobs run every two minutes or something - depending on the script.
It therefore uses a lot more system resources than some hosts are willing to allow. It's different if you start things manually, because no one is gonna sit there executing a script every two minutes :)
But still, most good hosts allow cron. And they should tell you that they allow it in the features section of their website.

well, true
cgi usually pretty cpu intensive. I just hope amd hurries up with their double cpu architecture. those gonna be beasts
