View Full Version : How long until you move away from a bad host (like prohosters)?

Hi Guys,
I hear it time and time again: "Damn my host is down/slow/unreachable again", when I asked them what host are you on the question (lately) is almost always prohosters.
So now my question to ya'all how long does it take you to get moved? I mean I'm still surprised when I hear somebody is with prohosters still - how can you? Haven't you read the boards lately? Don't you know if it hasn't happened to you yet it WILL happen to you?
... And what if they give you a month for free ... would you then stay with them?
Just Curious,
Greetz,
Much0S
I've heard so many great things about them I will be moving to them next month

I like Prohosters quite a lot. They're rarely down, and they're cheap.
If you want a bad host, I can make a list for you down my arm, all of which I've moved from.

I think nic was joking http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
And ya i am pretty sure Much0S is going to turn this into "Why not move to my hosting... I will give you 1 month free... we are fast and never go down! http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif"

I have a dedicated box that I pay 300$ a month for with just my sites, and it works really well. Only thing that pisses me off is the damn 5$/gb overage charges!!

Melody,
You have got to be shitting me, do you run a
cj site? - a content site like a tgp/link/free
site would not notice all the downtimes, have
you tried to put a monitoring service on your
site?
I have a program checking ALL my sites once
every minute and it will send email/sms if a site
is down.
When I had a semi ded on there, they was
the worst piece of crap I have ever been on,
down more than 20-30 times (no shit) every _day_.
When I was on prohosters and that crap
started, I stayed until the end of the month
that I paid for, and then it was goodbye!
I give a host 3-4 _small_ downtimes in the same
month, any more - I move... - period!
And btw, I would not stay with such a bad
host even if they gave me the rest of the year for
free - my time is money, and constantly rebuilding
my traffic is a waste of my time...

no I am not xApster if I feel i've to spam I will do it in the spamboard... do you really think I would sink so low? Why do you think i never include stuff like that in my signature?
The only thing was that I'd just talked to someone AGAIN with the same story AGAIN and i was frustrated about how long ppl just put up with it.
That's all.
Lizard, what host do you use? Thanks.

Well. Here's my story... The same old boring story...
I was on prohosters and I must admit I was REALLY happy... But, after 3 months of being happy with them, I started getting problems. I thought "well, maybe the problems won't last for more than 2 or 3 days", and guess what??? Problems started getting worst everyday. It took me 2 weeks to decide on moving (how stupid I was)... But finaly I moved to vector-force. And so far, I'm extremly happy with them http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
Next time I experience some problems for more than 3 days in a raw with any host, or if I hear a lot of warnings from other webmasters, I will just move immediately. That's the lesson I've learnt from two bad experiences I have had: Autson and Prohosters.
PS. 99% of the time the cheapest host will be the most expensive ones. It's better to pay a little bit more and actually getting more of what you are paying for, rather than paying less and getting almost nothing in return.

Good point xXx-Gene http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
It still surprises me how many ppl ask me
'Hey do you know a GOOD RELIABLE host where I can host my stuff for $14,95 a month?' ...
'How much traffic do you have?' ...
'Oh about 20GB a day' ...
'Man are you willing to risk that much traffic to pay like $500 less for hosting?' ..
'Yeah why not, I can't afford good hosting http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif'...
...
3 weeks later ...
...
'Ah man give me expensive hosting man, my host is down again! For THREE hours already'...
'What did you expect?'
......
When will ppl learn http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
In fact xXx-Gene mentioned something to me over Icq which I think should be passed along to everybody:
Don't rely on just one host! Just divide your sites over multiple hosts...
This is a pretty good advice I think, certainly when you're not sure wether the host you're with can handle everything properly.
Anyways this thread has become way to long http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif Was only meant as an act of frustration http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif

I'm just curious... these sites on Pro Hosters that are down all the time. Are they Virtual accounts, or is it the dedicated servers crashing, too?

When I was there, it was a semi dedicated
(lol) account - meaning something like only
9 sites pr. server...

Its clear that much profitable to pay more for hosting and get more $$$ from sponsors instead of downtimes...
