Ok...Let me make this post very clear...This is for CUSTOMERS ONLY...not dumbass host spammers...

Who hosts you and what are your experiences? Did you try a host before and switch? Why?

I Think It Is Important To Find Out Who Is Using What And How They Feel...Not Dumbass Hosts Saying Oh Oh We Have The Best Hosting...

So?

I am currently with energy hosting and am very happy with the service so far. They did a good job of setting up my server to fit my needs.

Switched from iicinternet, who couldn't quite manage to set up my special CGI requirements. Maybe for straight HTML and image hosting they would be OK? I'll give them credit though, they honored their 60 day money back guarantee.

We host with Flashhost. Have been there since the beginning of the year, first on virtual and now on a dedicated box. Our dedicated server runs like a charm and we've experienced NO (that's NONE ZERO) downtime since it came online 3 months ago.

Originally started with ProHosters but they got totally overwhelmed and couldn't service their customers so we switched.

There are only a few hosting outfits that I would recommend, based on personal knowledge. I don't know the majority of the ones that pop up on the board every time this question is asked.

I can tell you the worst host: IICinternet.
I have a ded. at 4webspace.com, very cheap, fast, and good customer service. Perfect for smaller sites and i also have some sites on EnergyHosting.com, fast servers and good service.

Well let me tell you about my host at http://www.hiendmedia.com I was messing around in Telnet (where i don't need to be http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ) on my dedicated and killed my server. Yeah my falut! I went into a panic! I paged them and waited about 5 minutes then called them. I got right threw to them and I was told they were already on the way! In less then 30 minutes they had my server back on line and my fuck up fixed!

THANKS GUYS! If that is not good service then I don't know what is! Go with them! You will be glad you did!

Good tip Battuss about energyhosting that's cheap shit for all those features. That's where I'm going.

I'm currently with westmaster and They fucking locked me out of my ftp cause I went over on bandwidth. They want me to sign up for a bigger plan and then they'll cancel my current one. Small problem though, my credit card is maxed out. So I'm fucked at the moment. Got a gallery coming up on the hun too LOL. My files that are already up are still good but I can't ftp to change, add or delete any files.

The thing is that I didn't register the domain with them and if I wanted to I could go into my admin at godaddy and point that fucker anywhere I want. At least I think so.

But I digress....thanks for the heads-up on that energy hosting. http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

This can't be good! http://www.flashhost.com/

Hosting on an NT box too.. God help them!

Noooooooooooooo

We're on a Unix box at flashhost. They also run a non-adult host for big SQL server e-commerce type things and that's where the NT/IIS box references come from.

They do *nix in several flavors. All the goodies and a very well connected network with datacenters in 3 locations in the US.

Click on that link above.. or maybe this one. http://www.flashhost.com

Not looking very healthy to me. Been like that for 2 days now.

Looks fine to me....

But I did see a thread on the Maxcash board related to this. Seems they got hacked.

In any case, I never saw the hacked page but it looks OK now. Since they have a unit that specializes in NT hosting for non-adult, maybe they put their home page on an NT boxen. Oh well, there isn't an NT box in the world that can be secured LOL.

Again, for our adult hosting, we're on a *nix box hosted at flash. They have great service, 24/7 PHONE support and the network is solid as hell.

Anyway, I was just trying to answer the question about who I use for hosting. I don't want to start sounding like I'm a Flash shareholder LOL. (Note: for the humor impaired, I have NO financial interest in Flash).

Well.. it looks to be fixed now. All I can say is.. if you are hacked (sign of poor security) you should be fixing it faster then 2 days.

I sure wouldn't host with them. They need to keep up to date on security holes.. looks like they haven't been.

We had some 12 yeard old hack an NT box we had about a month ago.

my partner exchanged some emails with the kid and he said to hack NT is like stealing candy from a baby.

Luckily he didnt screw with anything.

Thats why all my boxes are Linux based. Little better security. I run NT at home and my box is up 24/7 and I have never been hacked. I do scans on my machine all the time and never have any holes. If you keep up to date on security holes and exploits you will be fine. I understand its easy to blow that shit off, but as soon as you do look what happens.

As a rule of thumb run no un-nec services. Block everything on any machine, no matter if its unix or NT. That means if its a web server keep port 80 open, and possibly a VNC or SSH port.. but NOTHING else http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

As far as your ssh or vnc port, make sure that uses ip checking. Regardless of if a new exploit comes out, you will be protected b/c no one will be able to log on.

just don't let your guard down after blocking everything. there will always be a way in, especially if your software is out of date. one of the biggest problems with firewalling is that it gives people a false sense of security.

When you firewall everything but two services, its pretty easy to keep them up to date http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
