Alot, First you need good servers, backup systems and last but not least, a high speed dedicted line. On top of that, in order to be profitable, you gotta make sure you have enouph clients to pay the bill for the high speed line. Its acually alot of trouble, you would be better off investing the money in porn sites =) Thats what I would Do.

He he , you'll need more than 100.000$ for the server. Then you need professional admin. Otherwise you will have big trouble with clients. It is very hard to establish something like that. But if it works one time than.........$$$$$ he he eh eh
Wish ya the best

well, i think most of you are wrong there...
it doesn't take much to start, it all depends how you manage it...
I have been told that :
1) Buy a few good servers like 3-4
that's maybe $10.000
2) Get an "old age hacker" to manage them, good job for small prices... lol
3) Host your servers in a datacenter, so you don't have to buy the lines etc...

and done

you _are_ wrong neocorp 'a few good servers' don't cost $10.000 - they cost $10.000 a pop so that's $40.000

Then you need the admin - no admin is going to work for under $5.000 a month.

You also need to have somebody THERE for if hardware dies 24/7 - what do you think that costs!?

Then you have to buy the lines, which are very expensive if you don't buy a lot...

So if you want to start your own server don't even think about it until you have like 50mbit on average at least (= about 15000 GigaBytes per month)
And even then you're probably better of with a well established hosting provider who'll make you a good deal http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yes for start better deal with some big hosting company.Dont start it if you dont have some partner for it.You won't success alone. If you dont know how to admin servers look for some good admin as a partner.

Muchos, could you please give me one reason why one should have one $10.000 server for an average usage of 50mbit/sec (compare: a T3 is ~45mbit/sec) instead of a redundant server cluster?

Hi Coke,

I mistyped, what I meant is: if you want your own HOSTING company don't think of it till you have at least 50mbit.

my mistake.

Puh, I already started wondering http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi Octane

that is one way to do it....

but I could get a nice server from my current host, and just open my own company off of it. Do you know how many freaking virtual accounts I could toss on there? I'd just spam the AVS boards and newbie boards - I sure as shit wouldn't want you guys, with CJ scripts and TGSW eating up resources and hard drive space.

Just want to let you know I have a buddy doing exactly that, and turning a nice profit every month. Sure, if he had 100 grand laying around he'd go balls out, like MuchoS suggests, but there is always more than one way to skin a cat.
