icq question

my damn icq started crashing two days ago. Some invalid page module every 5 minutes. I wiped it out, reinstalled. Now it won't let me reregister the old number. Don't remember the password, and can't retrieve it either cause don't remember which email address I used 4 years ago when first installed it. Emailed their techsupport, but I guess going to take few lifetimes to get a word back from them.
Anyone has experience what to do to fix this (other than getting new icq #)?

On the off-chance: What's your number, and someone can look up the email you have registered there, and if you still have access, you can get your password again.

Do you still have your dat file? you can extract your password from it.

I had to uninstall my old icq completely with all the files, cause something there went crazy and would crash every 5 minutes. There is no dat file left on this pc. However I have old icq number installed on laptop, just need to hook it up on network. How do I retreive the password from it? I installed it first few years ago, and I beleive they didn't have passwords back then, so not sure if I ever entered it.

ProgGod, I use trillian and love it was well, BUT it's not going to help him recover his ICQ password which he needs to login regardless of what client he's using.

gse, when you uninstall ICQ it doesn't wipe out the .dat file, so unless you maunally torched it, it's still on the PC somewhere.

yep, I manually deleted everything, it was the only way to fix damn crashes
On laptop I have also icq with this number and I can connect, so I should be able to retrieve it from laptop dat file. How is it done exactly (if I don't remember emaill address)?

ProgGod is right, go get trillian I use it simultaneously on icq, msn and yahoo and never have any problems with it. You lose a few features of ICQ - but it uses a hell of a lot less memory and you can get skins to make it look pretty groovey (where as ICQ had a bit of a disagreement witht he software designers IMHO http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif)
