Did anyone else listen to the coast-to-coast radio program Troubleshooters Network this evening?
The topic of discussion (among other things) was dialer programs that attack your computer using malicious java applets and dial up 'dialer programs' on a toll number without your being preset, and continue to dial the numbers every day or so, even connecting their computer to the internet using those numbers without the owners being present. (of course no one on the program had EVER downloaded such a dialer, let alone installed it lol).
'Experts' on the program stated that the dialer programs were placed on your computer using malicious java applets, without the users knowledge or consent. Generally the aggreement seemed to be that websites with several popups somehow used one of the pop ups to place this dialer on your computer.
I would have called the program if i would have had a cell phone, but i was in my car and could not. But I was impressed by the general lack of knowledge of middle class america. It was even stated that we webasters could implanted the dialer on their system through email viruses.
The whole topic just pissed me off. The one thing i did get a kick out of was that none of them would admit to visiting such a site.

I remember years ago, someone made a virus that called sex phone numbers in a ton of different contries over and over again, silencing the modem and all. Ringing up your phone bill quite a bit. Sounds like the same thing, just with a dialer.
