what a load of bollocks.
i know you know the CJ industry well - so why fucking say that most scripts are perl scripts?
UCJ-C = perl? NOPE
Blind-IO = perl? NOPE
Scorpion= perl? NOPE
Wanko = perl ? NOPE (methinks.. http://adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif )
ProPorn = perl ? NOPE
so, pretty obvious then that:
----------------------------
The script that the most webmasters use are Perl scripts. There is nothing wrong with Perl script when used on a server with low traffic. But when you want to trade with 100 of sites with 1.000.000+ hits pr. day Perl breaks down and corrupts its databases.
----------------------------
Ok, i run two successful CJ sites, and would say they a reasonably successful - but come on man, NO-ONE has come CLOSE to getting million+ hits (to the script - dont blag a hit being a server request buddy..) pr day.
------------------------------
Instead of using Perl we decided to use PHP3 and a powerfull SQL database. This means that the serverload is very small and the data collected never gets corrupted
------------------------------
NEVER GETS CORRUPTED: pretty brave claim.
--------------------------
Furthermore you don't have to install anything! The entire script is on a main server. This means that upgrades are free and instantly! You don't have to care about backups, server security and attacks.
-------------------------
Cool i guess - but *lmao* - dont care about security attacks? OK, this server might have a million and billions and squillions of hits/day going though it - surely making it a prime attack target - the hacker can send down perhaps 50 sites if he gets in, or redirect all sites traffic to himself, or whatever..
*sigh* i am stressed cos of my money probs, so nothing personal Due, just point the downfalls of every paragraph on your website, showing you that its all a load of bullshit. Perhaps someone who has never ever ever ever ever seen a CJ site, might want to buy it, but it certainly does not sell itself to us other CJ webmasters - we know the score, and can see through that page.
lators,
Richard.
We have changed that about perl scripts now. Now it also say C/C++ :-) No offense to anyone it was just a stupid mistake...
1.000.000+ hits pr. day = Yes this script can handle that amount of VISITORS (mayby we should write VISITORS instead of hits) it is written for high traffic sites and it is written to control several high traffic sites. That is no problem
NEVER GETS CORRUPTED: pretty brave claim.
Yeah I know. But that is a fact.
I have had one server crash while I was using this script because I tried to setup webadverts to run my banner rotations. And with 6000+ impressions per hour my server crashed. But nothing happend to the DB it worked fine once I got my server reset :-)
We have a very high security on our server so I don't think you will have any problems with hackers.

(sorry for the angry face - just my general mood still)
---------------------------------------------
http://adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/redface.gif) good news that you cleared it up. I dont doubt you can handle 1mil hits - but the previoius wording lead you to belive that if you traded with 100 of sites, (possible for a CJ site) and with 1mil hits (urm...nope..).blah blah blah.
Due is a great bloke, and his script is going to be a killer.
Richard.

This site and all my others are housed on 4 x SUN Ultra-SPARC II, each with dual processors and 1gb of ram, being served from a state-of-the-art Network Appliance Filer served via a dedicated 100 megabit/sec line. Which is some serious hardware.
This server has run over 100 000 banner impressions per hour via a perl script at one time. (a banner serving script for freepictures.com which did over 3 million uniques a day)
Hmmmm .... now if a server has trouble with mere 6000 impressions per hour how can it handle a million script hits per day for each person who buys it?
As far as data safety .... well this particular mean piece of hardware has been down has had its downtime / failures when its $70 000 Netapp (over glorified harddrive) with 99.99% guaranteed uptime decided it wanted to systematically destroy the harddrives in its RAID 5 array with resultant dataloss.
Now if a top of the line system like this can suffer dataloss ....
Also a remotely hosted database means double the downtime. If your site goes down or the script owners site goes down?
Also perl does not break down and corrupt the database. The top UCJ regular sites was running well over 100 000 impressions a day through it before it was switched to ucj-c. What kills the databases is poorly managed highly overloaded servers.
I'll be curious as to the filelocking issues that you will encounter once those servers start getting loaded. With several million in/out hits a day there will be troubles.
I think you're also greatly mistaken in the load the sql / php will cause as far as server load. Both of which will cause a lot of extra load over a C / C++ script. Nothing is faster than a well written C/C++ cgi period. A combination of SQL/PHP doesn't compare to a directly executed compact piece of code.
Now if you move domains .. won't you have to setup all your trades again as the referrer domain has to be changed on each trade? Which is essentially the same as starting from scratch again.
Also how on earth can you expect to run a script site on the free host. The top banner takes all the margin out of the outclick ratio plus most free hosts don't allow consoles.
Rimmer>> I did not say that the script has problems with 6000 impressions per hour. The script I used had problems with it, webadverts.
But yes mayby you are right. It probably was a combination of overload on my server and lack of bandiwth + I used a poorly written CGI for my banner rotator.
That is also why we will be hosting the script dedicated and not on the same server as my site.
Nobody can promise 100% on uptime on their hosting but if a users server is down he can move the site with just a click from the admin panel (yes then you would have to change the refferer domain)
It could be that a C/C++ script works faster than php3/mysql I don't know. but I know that with my current configuration on this server it can easyli handle 1.000.000 impressions and more than that. so what do you think would happend when we get it on a better server without all the current mySQL processes + all kind of crappy CGI on it. And a fact is that lately I think we heard of a few people that lost their DB beacuse some kind of overload or whatever caused it. Won't happend with this script
I will not be moving my domains for the current sites only for the script. But both domains will work until I'm sure that all trades use the new domain to send IN to (they still get traffic from the same domain)
I don't expect anyone to run a CJ site from a free host but it can be done. IE. If you have a downtime on your own host you can switch ASAP.
I would almost sudgest a server at SexTracker, they are alot, but down time is rare and they know how to configure a server to handle high loads!
If you due, get enough people purchasing the script i would look into it!
I would bet my nut you'd have an angry mob of people if you sufferd a long spell of down time.
Ron> Yeah I know. But having a server at sextracker cost a setup fee at $3K that is too much to start with
If we got enough people to buy the script we will also have more than one server running :-)
