Has anyone written/read a history of how TGPs started?

I was out of the biz when they started getting really popular.

I've had to piece together info but missing some time.

Hmm, when I noticed the first big gallery listing sites I did alot of avs stuff.

Among the avs webmasters these early versions of tgp`s were known as backdoor sites.

Alot of "tgp" people were surfing the avs link lists and linked directly to the (unprotected) content pages of avs sites.

The avs site owners got shocked by huge bandwith bills on levels they have never seen before http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Than it turned out into a competition.
Everyone was proud when a gallery was picked and linked on a backdoor site.
Most people slapped up htaccess, and redirected to their avs front end.

Now they wanted more of these huge traffic waves and submitted their backdorrs by email.

I think that was the way it all started.
Atleast thats how I have seen it 5 years ago.

the hun has been a tgp of sorts since he started - 02-Jan-1997.

The Hun was a link site when he started. He only linked to sites *he* "found", or that friends of his "recommended". Most people submitted the front end of the site, not the thumbnail gallery. It was fairly useless to submit directly to him. It was harder than hell to get listed. (Still is, I am told, but not nearly what it was).

The first actual TGP (thumbnail gallery post) that *I* was aware of was Adult Buffet. I know that Meatman had the idea of doing one in the middle part of '97, but Kman actually created the thing. I made a very good living off of Buffet traffic for quite some time.

I think Player's Thumbnail Gallery Post might have come around about the same time, though.

I was around when the Hun started .. and I remember him hotlinking directories and everyone getting pissed, but that's where I left off .. because then I left the biz for a while ..

So Adult Buffet was first after that?

And what/where is Player's?

Yup, the Hun was a hotlinker in the olden days. I do believe that was *another* owner, though, so...

I don't recall another one before Buffet. It was only getting about 10 submissions a day at the time I started posting. Kman had to explain the concept on the posting page.
