i can think of 3 possibilities:

1. ps/2 connectors for both mouse and keyboard are identical, you may have plugged the keyboard into the mouse connector.

2. keyboard cable may be damaged.

3. the keyboard controller on the motherboard broken.

let's hope it's 1.

plug in your keyboard to mouse's socket and plug in the mouse to keyboard's socket.
(if both are ps/2)

maybe it works (?)

tried both of those, I'm using the keyboard on this puter so I know that the keyboard is ok , tried switching them , no luck , I'm really stumped on this one.

sounds like your ps2 port is fried :(

the motherboard is out of a box that I was using last year, it worked fine, I built a
new one and have been taking the parts off the old one, it worked fine last time I used it, but it won't work in this box,
