1000 dollar for 100MBPS

Hi,

I read at Cogentco(http://www.cogentco.com/Fast/elegant_proposition.html) that they offer 100MBPS for only 1000 bucks.

Can you order that? I mean is it for adult sites too? and do they need your server, or can they set it up for you?

i dont think you'll get "rich" answers here concering cogentco. Better mail them with your questions. Some webmasters and host owners believe that cogentco won't last for long. Having in mind this kind of technology they use will be the market stantard in some years and that great project in the states most of the times find the funds to keep them alive I think they'll be around for at least some years. Actually they provide you only the bandwidth if i remember well and you have to take care the rest. Currently many adult host owners use them and I think they don't experience any problems.

Because their host got shut down by Cogent due to spamming. Do you want to say that other carriers would tolerate a host on their network that's promoting spam?
Also the article you mentioned is easy to explain. In the first 6 months of 2001 they only had revenues of $90.000 because they didn't have many lit buildings at that time lol
How should they be supposed to earn money at the time they build up their network? When they were building their network in 2001 and the first half of 2001 they had no customers. The first ones came in April/May when they had the first buildings lit.
Also a company that has just bought 2 other companies can't be that financially unstable, I suppose. But that's only me.

To the topic:
You can't use their $1000 per 100mb/s deal for hosting websites. This offer is only for business that want to have a fast connection in their offices, having far more down- than uploads.
Hosting companies pay more and lately they've become quite picky when it came to approving new customers. They don't take every one.
Furthermore you need to be in a carrier grade facility before Cogent even considers having you as a customer. If in this facility there aren't at least 5 other companies buying connectivity from them that building won't be lit.
If you do meet all these requirements and you manage to get a Cogent feed you will need to do everything yourself. You'll need to buy routers, switches, etc. Thus, unless you come close to the 100mb/s usage you won't save much using them.

the $1000/100mbps is only for there transport service which is only on there network so peering

if you want 100mbps with peering so it can be used for hosting its $3000/100mbps

All these jelous hosts who are with other bandwidth providers are always nagging about Congentco when really I am with congentco and my servers have NEVER gone down because of congentco's bandwidth. Adultwebmasterinfo has never been down that I have seen and lord behold they have bandwidth from congentco...Go figure...

I'd have to agree with quality here, Cogent isn't all that bad. Once their network is complete these guys will ROCK.

I have 100mb from them and haven't had any problems to this date, well once a 10 min downtime when their router went down in PA.

Pricewise these guys KICK ASS!!!
