For a few days I ordered the files in a folder by date. To my dismay, Win98 has suddenly made this to the default setting for ALL folders. How do I get back the original setting, where all files are by default ordered by name (alphabetically) ? ... I'm pretty tired of having to chose "order by name" every time I view the contents of a folder. :(
*sigh*

First order your files by name, then choose View->Folder Options...->View->Like Current Folder

hope this helps

Thanks, I've tried that, and it helps to some extent (more folders but not all ordered as I want).

I should add that the biggest trouble is the file opening boxes (like when chosing File -> Open -> Browse). There doesn't seem to be anything I can do to restore the default ordering of files in those!

Click start button ... select "settings" ... select "Folder Options" click "View" tab ... click "Reset All Folders" ... click "Restore Defaults" ... Good as new :)
.
When you set up folder options its worth knowing that you can apply changes globally to all folders or you can apply settings to individual folders ... anyway best thing to do is get rid of the windoze browser it sux ass , get powerdesk 4 from http://www.ontrack.com/powerdesk/ it rocks and it don't hide all your system files like the windoze browser does even if you tell it to display them.
