plan 3 offers a 1 mbps line for i think $289.

i have a friend that hosts there - i wouldn't put a cj on it, but for trashy and cheap, this is it http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

why trashy?
dont they really give you that 1mbps line and which allows more that 300+ gigs transfer? dont you get nice flat speed?
cuz i was thinking that lines such as T1 (i guess 1.4mbps) would be ideal for a dedicated server, if there is only one server that is connected.

well, i guess i need to learn a little more about this hosting stuff http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I wonder if maxim has improved recently, or whether people who had bad experiences used maxim's servers rather than supplying their own? I put two boxes of my own there a couple of weeks ago, and I've been quite pleased with the connectivity. A friend who runs several middling-size paysite programs has recently put several boxes there as well, and he's reported the same results (in fact, I went there after shooting some tests against his boxes).

If you've not gotten the hang of working in capped bandwidth rather than burst, it's a rather different experience, but I've been hosting under bandwidth caps since forever, so it's no big thing. Uptime thus far has been 100%, no latency or packet loss issues unless I've pushed the cap (which is to be expected). As always, your mileage may vary...

A couple of other comments re: maxim. I've not needed their tech support, nor do I expect to (beyond maybe hitting "reset" once in a blue moon), but I've not heard terribly great things from people who've had them help with linux configuration issues. If you need handholding, this might not be the venue for you.

Also, they charge the same rackspace charge per server regardless of size; if you're building a box, buy a 4U case for $200 rather than a sexy 1U for $500 - there's no incentive. They're allowing me to split a single bandwidth cap between servers, but I had to supply my own switch; on the upside, they're not charging me to house the switch.

Don't know whether they improved but when I had a box there the connecivity to europe was almost NON existant. I didn't need their support either, but their network sucked big time when I used them (last year)
