Hi,

I need a laptop. I'm trying to decide between IBM, Compaq and Dell. I'm leaning towards Dell right now.

Here's my needs (in order):
Support
Thin/lightweight
Durability

If anything breaks, I want onsite service (Dell offers for $249 extra), I need a 14" screen and something light. And lastly, needs to withstand a beating (durable).

Fire away your suggestions and recommendations, price isn't a big issue but will be factored.

Forget all those, go with an ACER Travelmate 614tx just picked up one.. 1" thick, titanium cover, dvd, cdrw, 1ghz processor, blah blah only $1800 the 900mhz version with just a dvd is like $1300..

Well have an IBM Thinkpad 390X and its great never given me any problems. Its lightweight so thats not to worry and as for durable well heh anything will break if you beat it up enuff. :)

Warrenty is good course its IBM and they make great shit and back their products period. I personally would never trade mine for anything except maybe a newer model.

Now i just gotta see if i can find a referal program to make a commission on selling you one. :D

hey, i'll second the opinion of proggod on this one - the acer is SOLID - cann't find it in stores designed for business and built like a MF!

Here's my thoughts:

Acer hasn't got onsite support in Waterloo, the closest is Toronto. That puts it out right away.

Toker, you have a link? I couldn't find the 390 model from IBM's site.

Oneweb, thanks, I'll look at the reviews on it.

Anyone have experience with Dell's? I'm leaning towards a Dell right now based on the needs I mentioned in my original post.

IBM !!! They have the best laptops but they are expensive, I mean they are more expensive than Compaq and Dell.

Just my opinion.

for the speed go with Toshiba Satellite 2800
if you look for the price, buy the less expensive 15" display, It makes a difference when you spend even 1-2 hours a day on it, worth the extra
