I thought maybe a newbie perspective should lighten this board up some.....
First off, I have been doing this for a month. My site is at
http://www.redhotandfree.com
I get about avg. of 800 uniques a day.
I have learned that all the webmasters say they will help you if you ask, but none of them really ever gives me a real help.
Things every newbie want to know now, even me still....
1.Hosting, who out there knows a really good host?
2.What content really sells (catagory)
3.How do you gain traffic, what are the best ways.
4.What sponsers to trust, and who are the best?
5.What NOT to do.
Can anybody really help here. Ya I want to learn, but doesn't everybody...Where did you get your help?
Anybody that can help me, will be a lifelong friend...not that really matters to most people, but i will find some way to repay you.
Thanks, Jason

I've never been very lucky at getting questions answered here. For example, I posted one a few hours ago asking about any significant differences between 3 of the main trading programs. Must be lots here who could answer that and it wouldn't exactly be giving away any money-making secrets... but no response so far.
I don't know of a board that focusses on trading that is much better. For general newbie help, http://www.topniche.com/booster/message.cgi is very good and friendly. http://askmrporn.com/wmh/wwwboard/multiboard1.html is more AVS oriented (Adult Check in particular), but also a helpful bunch of people.
Just one piece of advice... if your questions are the type that, to be useful, require a lengthy response, it sometimes helps if you ask them one at a time. Frustrating for you maybe, but those few you posted there would need a book http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

to be honest,,this board is mainly for experienced webmasters,,,
small trivia questions that everyone has heard a million times usually will not get a response,,,alot of webmasters here are very busy and would only comment on serious issues,,
your best way to get by and to learn is either hanging out on the newbie boards or get lucky and have someone take you under their wing and help you out,,,
good luck

i have tried to help dozens of new webmasters. my experience is they don't want to believe what works - they want to believe what they already believe, even though it doesn't work.
and a few wanted me to do it all for them...
if you really want some help, and you're willing to try stuff, email me and i'll tell ya everything you want to know. webmistress@xxxvisions.com
jayeff, sorry but i don't use those scripts.
jmb1881,
The best thing you can do is try a little of everything out yourself and see what works best for you.

well i think if the webmasters are too busy they have noting to do on a bbs...if they hang on a bbs then it means that they could answer basic questions........
my advice is that if nobody answers to you just try to do a search by topic on the board...many of the questions you ask might have been answered in the past
if you need help feel free to icq 7525191

Well, I have to agree with basschick, kong, and SABAI. The fact is that everyone here has probably helped out someone along the way. But after a while the same questions just keep getting asked over and over. So the best advice to give is to say, try a little bit of everything, find a groove that fits your needs, and keep trying to improve your traffic, increase your conversions, and decrease your relative costs.
But on that same note, here's go a couple suggestions and answers to your questions.
1. There are a lot of different kinds of hosts out there, and your needs basically determine what type of host would be best for you. If you're just in this business for fun, or just getting started, then a free host would probably fulfill your needs. There are tons of free hosts out there, and some of the more recognizable ones are porncity.net, lightningfree.com, and smutserver.com.
If you're actually wanting to pursue a real business, then obviously you're going to have pay hosting, which is where I imagine you are at now. With one domain, and less than 1000 hits a day, a virtual account will probably provide you with everything you need. ProHosters.com, autson.com, national-net.com, and hosting.sextracker.com all offer some competitive virtual accounts, and have been doing so for a good while.
As your processing and bandwidth needs go up (ie: you use more scripts, start more sites, and get more hits) you'll want to move up to a dedicated server, and then multiple dedicated servers. Our company, DynamicHosting.com, provides dedicated server deals, as well as National-net.com and hosting.sextracker.com. Hosting companies measure the allotted bandwidth to your machine in different ways, so your best bet is to learn and undertand the difference between burtsable, non-burstable, average, and per gig plans. That way you can find out what type of plan really fits your needs. Most hosting companies will talk with you to decide what type of plan will work best with your sites and traffic patterns.
2. Content can get just as complicated. Some people say their niche is the greatest. Others will say that it doesn't matter, just focus on hot females. And still others will give away a Gigs of teaser movies, in hopes of selling a couple memberships to the full ength equivalent.
It all depends on your methods of marketing. What type of traffic you get directly determines what you're going to be able to sell. Basically, you have to figure out what type of surfers you have, or can get, and work with that. Expirement and find out what works with them. One of the best places to start is just hot women, or hot youg women. A majority of male surfers enjoy pics of hot chicks. Then you have to start dividing your traffic up. Some of them like big tits, some enjoy petit ladies, others only like hardcore. It's not that one particular niche outperforms all others, it's just that you have to match up your traffic with content they'll accept and pursue.
3. It's the same way. If you had an ice cream shop, how would you get customers? You gain contacts, hook up with other people you think will be working with your target demographic, and try to get in front of the people you want to sell to. Now, online it is more competitive, so basically the answer is to find a way to offer more for less, and get that fact in front of others. If you're operating a TGP, make it al ittle cleaner, operate on a little tighter margin, and Put the best galleries each day at the top of the lists. Then trade hits with people that have sloppier pages than you. So you get to retain more bookmarkers, because in comparison, you're site beats the competition. If you're doing galleries, the same principle applies. Find ways to cuts costs, and still keep increasing your traffic. I know making money is the point of this business, but if you don't use some of your traffic to build more hits, you're goig to die. Always take enough out to survive, but use everything else to grow with. Limit your losses and leverage your resources. That's business.
4. Use your judgement, you hear bad things, avoid them unless you realy have to use their site. Feel free to contact the different companies, and see if they'll return your emails/phone calls before you signup. If a site looks like it was made by a 14 yr. old, it would take some convincing before I trusted them to send me a $3000 check. So never have all your eggs in one basket. Use a little variety, keep an eye and ear out for new info on existing companies, and always put money back for a rainy day incase one of your hunches is wrong. You can't eliminate all your risks, but by using some educated guesses, you can win most of the time. And that's all you have to do to continue getting ahead.
5. This could go on forever
Don't bitch all the time about how people won't help you compete with them ;-)
Don't spam
Don't bring complaints to the boards before confronting the individuals first
Don't ignore programs' terms and conditions
Avoid completely fucking the surfer or his CC, it's bad for the industry in general
Don't deal with CP, even the word lolita implies negative connotations
Don't cheat sponsors
Don't cheat traffic trades
Be upfront and honest in all your dealings
Don't think that your better or worse off than anyone else you see or talk to
Don't take life for granted
...
Have a great day,
Chad

I think one of the reasons why nobody helps out newbies here is because it's so difficult for them to learn everything and actually make money at this point. When I started out in the adult biz, I asked people, and no one really helped me back then. I wasn't for about a year and then some that I actually made money. And the only reason why I made money is because I was earning money off my non adult sites, and had the time to actually learn the industry and put in the effort to build sites etc. If you live off your 9-5 job now, and want to do this so you can quit your job or something like that, you'd probably be better off sticking with what you do now.
