Did you clean your cookies and dialed in again for a new IP? And you're not having some special sort of typo or so where everyone can see ahh this guy again? Also, try again a few days later, probably the guy who is getting your applies right now just doesn't want to care about applications now.

And getting declined is pretty much the norm so don't get paranoid http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif Also, when you're in don't start pushing your own sites right away. They got you under their microscope the first time. BTW, putting in some of your own sites isn't prohibited. Actually they expect that, and guess what, most of them do it. Just don't "cool" your own sites, that IS forbidden.

You guys are telling me, over a year ago when I did non adult sites I was trying to become an editor and they didn't care either. I think it is all inside connections cause I know of no one that has applied and gotten to be one.

Just for the hell of it I applied for a position in a category with no editors that is listed as help needed. In a niche that I actually knew a lot about.

It only took them less than a half an hour to decline it. With no reason as well.

Bravo DMOZ

I think if you are trying to be an editor just for the sake of adding your own sites, they can usually see through that and sooner or later you will be found. Everything a editor does can be checked, every site you add, decline, review is recorded.... If you really want to volunteer your time why don't you try the NON adult side?

They seem to have a lot of people to review applications over there. But I have submitted several sites and have never been listed. Actually I have checked over there for around 2 months and they have only added around 2-3 sites in only a few categories.

If you don't get listed, I have usually got a response from one of the categories editors within 48, indicating why they declined the listing. The last time I enquired was when one of sites dropped off their list. I was advised that the reason I got dropped is all my pics on this listing were sponsor pics. The site was fine when I first listed, because the catogory it was listed on was pretty thin with listings at the time of submission, but on review later, it no longer met their listing rules. I put up some non-sponsor pics and got listed within a few days.

I have only tried a few times to be an editor, and been knocked back each time. It would be interesting to hear something from one of the category editors here.

I am a DMOZ editor. Only took 1 try to get the spot. From what I hear its rare to get accepted first time around. I have applied for other categories but turned down multiple times.

Marina, good point. Applying for a non adult cat first can improve chances. When you are finally in, and after you have cleaned up your cat and added a reasonable amount of sites, you could apply for another cat after a few weeks. Also, when you apply for a adult cat right at the beginning, your intention to add a few of your own sites shouldn't pop right out of your eyes. Some have 10 and more cats, including non adult and adult. But when you apply for an additional cat you will go through the same procedure (writing descriptions for 3 new sites for that cat). But if you made decent job in your current cat you WILL get the additional cat.

Also, since we're talking about it here, I wouldn't use neither an email nor an username that is listed in your profile here when you're applying.

Here are some hints:

Use proper grammar and spelling in your application.

Be honest as to your reasons for wanting to be an editor.

Don't try to hide anything or any affiliation with your websites.

Pick at least three good, varied sites as examples.

Picking a category in a a non-commercial cat does probably increase your chances of getting accepted. Then, if you do a good job, you can add other areas of the directory. Editing a category outside of Adult has the added benefits of both giving you a break from dealing with porn all the time and building the feeling of vounteerism. And we all need that for our own mental health, I think.

One last point, no matter how you get accepted, either directly into a specific Adult category or somewhere else in the directory, keep the needs of the surfer (and so the directory) paramount. If you start screwing with things to benefit your own work or to hurt your competitors', you will be booted. There is a long list of editors who have been canned, including some pretty heavy players in the industry.

So if all you are interested in is to get some of your own sites listed, don't bother to apply. There are other ways to get your sites considered. But if you really are interested in building the largest, spam-free source of sites on the net, then give it a shot.

(OK, I'm getting off my soapbox. http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif )

Yeah, the GreenGuy has been booted as well and he's kinda pissed of because of that! He has been accused to pull competitors sites I believe. Not sure though about the reasons - you could read the whole story on his own board.
