Hey all - I've been a little bored lately, so I'm trying my hand at writing a toplist script. Right now I have it functional but dirty, and am beginning the "fun" part where I start tweaking and trying to think up and implement features.
But what features to implement? I'm asking you guys:
What are your biggest issues with toplists? What could a script do to make itself more attractive to people signing up? What are some features you'd like to see? What features are widely used that you hate? Other suggestions?
Bear in mind that I'm asking from the USERS point of view - not the administrator, as this is just a little pet project, and I have no plans to ever distribute this script.
TIA - cynthia
I think the best feature will be some kind of productivity tracking.
IE:
A site sends a user that don't click anything on the list. Then the site don't get 1 vote
A site send a user that click on 1,2,3 whatever links then the site get one vote. That will eliminate all cheaters

Yeah, I agree. No need for a cheater gateway then http://adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif I would be more likely to use a toplist with no gateway that ranked on productivity. It's easy to send productive blind hits from certain types of text links, surfers that might click on a link at the toplist, but might not click the gateway link. Hi Cynthia,
I would love to see a function so sites can be ranked by the site that has sent the most but also by percentage of in to out hits so a site that had sent 10 and had only 1 return would be hugher than a site that had sent 1000 but had 1,500 returned I also think productivity is a better way of ranking than going by hits sent.
One more thing is templates so you can design yoiu toplist to suit your needs the more flexible the better
Have fun let us all know how you go

Thanks for the replies. I've already thought about productivity tracking and the possibility of ranking based on it. A lot of toplist scripts out there already do this.
I'm still kicking around different ideas - but thanks for your input... it makes me think that I was on the right track, at least. http://adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
