Anyone here know how to take a screen shot of MPEG video and save it as a jpeg or whatever?

Prtscrn doesn't work for this type of thing. You just get media player, and a blank screen where the video is supposed to be.

You need to pause the MPEG video and then ALT+PRTSCRN or just PRTSCRN and paste it into Photoshop.
However for some odd reason it sometimes does end up with only the media player and the blank screen http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I suggest you use Hypersnap DX or Hypercam at http://www.hyperionics.com for better screen capturing.

If you have a poor vid card or under 64 meg of ram this will happen at times..

Also.. make sure to run the video against your desktop.. have all other winblows minimized.. I have never had a problem when done this way..

No the video card is a GeForce 3. http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif So it's not the card nor the video ram that seems to be the problem.

If you have that blank screen problem the only solution is to open the same movie twice, the first screen will be blank, the 2nd will work. Weird stuff.

This is the most popular question regarding video.... ThumbsPlus can and will thumbnail/screen capture a few types of video. Their is little need to fuck around with print screen.... etc.

alt/PrtScrn works just fine.

for example say you are using photshop or paintshop, have the video window directly on top of the graphic editor and hit alt/PrtScrn and then paste new image in you graphic editor and wallahhhhh!

works for me every time http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

> open the same movie twice, the first
> screen will be blank, the 2nd will work

The reason you get the blank screen is because most modern video card use "overlay" to display the video. I can't remember the dynamics behind it, but it's something about the image not actually being a part of the normal desktop. Therefore normal screen grabs won't work as they can't see the "overlay".
The reason it seems to capture the second open video clip, is because these cards generally can only display one "overlay" at once. So the second video will be opened as a standard (and most likely non accelerated) video clip because it can't use the "overlay" that's already in use.
Therefore the screen grabber can see the second "standard" display, but not the first "overlay" display.

Hopefully at least one of you will be able to make sense of what I just said :Þ

For frame grabbing of videos, I just open it up in a video suite (if you have one) and save the desired section of the file as JPG's.
