View Full Version : Thinking of getting a dedicated box

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a box of my own, up till now I've been using free hosts for TGP posting, but now I feel I am confident enough in my selling skill to move on to a paid solution.

I am still concerned though of the actual figures, so what I would like is some statistics from you regular TGP posters. What I would like to know is :

1) How much bandwith a month you use, assuming you post 1 gallery a day.

2) Which company you'd reccomend.

3) What kind of server specs?

4) What kind of billing plan you're on? (95%, Billed/GB, burstable?)

Regards,
Cyberzen

Are you sure you want a dedicated server? Sounds like a little excessive for a tgp, unless you are really planning on doing some mass bandwidth use.

Pay per GIG is the safe way to go.

If you like you can check us out but you dont relly need a dedicated we have very fast virtual servers.

Hit me up if you want to discuss it or check our site and see how affordable we are. ;)

how much bandwidth depends very strongly on what niche ya post. you can go anywhere from 5 gig per day to 30 posting galleries - the 30 gig a day would be a good strong teen daily posting.

pay by the gig - makes the most sense.

would have to say definately not a need for a dedicated box - and I would deinately recommond paying by the gig

we use a dedicated server, the first month they gave us "unlimited" tech support, after that, if you have a question or a problem, then it is $50 per hour. So, i took the Raq4i manual and read it 5 times, luckily enough for us, a raq4i is not to tough to manage, but still, i'd rather spend time with my girlfriend, rather than reading that damn manual...
A virtual site at a serious host might be better if you only run a few sites, less trouble and not much worry about tech... we have 600 sites, so we have no choice.

Wow toker,

your prices seem really attractive, anyone using datahosters? Are you pleased with their service and speed?

well with virtual accounts you get all this crap associated with multi-users on single system. Like one guy runs some cgi that goes into never ending loop, another guy loses his account password and some hacker cracks the whole system, etc, etc..
With dedicated you are the boss, you tune up your system the way you like, but it takes time to become a good system administrator. That's why good system engineers charge $100 per hour

I'm not using them, but I've heard enough great things about them.
Especially when it comes to support.

Just do a quick scan of the forum, and you'll see a whole topic dedicated to them if I recall correctly.

Jason.

I agree RaQ is only good for mainstream sites or maybe posting TGP galleries ect..
