View Full Version : Need Laptop Feedback
I need to order a laptop for a business trip within the next couple or days. Please post some of your experiences with good places to order. I need it within a week to a week and half. I am checking out dell and a few others but I wanted to get some feedback from my fellow webmasters. Thanks in advance

Ride

Whatever you get, make sure its not a Toshiba.
The product is good enough but the customer service is absolutley neglectful. I tried
to get my notebook repaired and it took 6
months for them to get their shit straight
and get me the right info to send it in.
Sick I tell you. Just avoid Toshiba.

Our sony vaio runs like a fucking dream : )

**DO NOT GET DELL** We have bought three of their "top of the line" computers two different years previous, thinking that each time their shit would only get better... it's hopeless with them. I do not know why they are so highly praised... either build it yourself or get a Vaio.

Good luck,
Brad

You can't build your own laptop first of all.

Second, Dells are awesome. I'm not sure what was wrong with that guy's dell, but I bought an Inspiron 8100 and I love it!

It's got a 64 meg ATI Radeon video adapter, 384 megs of ram, Windows XP pro, DVD rom, and a 40 gig hard drive.

It's perfect for business and gaming.

I got a compaq presario
it's works well, and I sent in for a new cord and they overnighted it to me under warranty.
Thanks for all the replies. I am still searching (sitting around with credit card in hand ) I am not looking for anything top of the line because I have a feeling it will get used about once a month. I just need it for this upcoming trip.

Someone told me about ubid, but I don't want refurbished.

Any more feedback is greatly appreciated.

Ride

HaHa that sounds like my ISP whenever my DSL goes down fist thing they tell me i will need to format and reinstall my OS to be sure its not a conflict.

I have an IBM Thinkpad and its a great and never a problem yet. If i would buy another tomorrow it would be IBM no doubt about it.
Do not buy a Dell. They sux
The keyboards is the worst shit ever. The key's stop working if you use the laptop a lot.
If you plan on plugging a extra keyboard in then Dell is fine.
Heard of many people having problems with the keyboards including myself

Ive got a Dell Inspiron 8100 about 4 months old and still no problems here, and i love the graphics, card mobile geforce 2 chipset 32mb

Never buy a compaq the suck especially when you want to upgrade your memory you pay a shitload of money for it compared to a dell or hp

the hp omnibook series look good to in my eyes only a bit expensive $8k

i should go for a dell

Ick, Dell sucks. We've got one less than a year old that does nothing but crash, and one about a month old that shocks the shit out of you if you touch the side and the bottom (as in picking it up) at the same time ((

crashing depends on the software that you've installed not the brand name Dell

Let me recommend acer, i picked up one a few months back and Its been the best laptop I have ever used.. Well besides my Appler Powerbook

They have ALL the features of the biggest notebooks, P4, geoforce2go, 5400rpm hard drives (most have 4200), 1400x1200 screens, etc. But they are very well prices, and SUPER thing. They fit all that in a 1" notebook. Which no other company has managed to do yet. Also have DVD/CDRWs, etc

Feel free to ICQ me if you want further recommendations or want to know the best place to order.

Btw i am talking about th 600 line, they have some other once i wouldn't recommend.

I have a compaq presario - had the motherboard crap out once - fixed under warranty in under a week when i was in a different country!
I also have an AJP with a 15.1" screen that has never given me any real problems (apart from a dodgy connection on the screen which i fixed myself) it's 3 years old now

(e.g. buy a laptop with a bad MB but a good screen and one with a cracked screen and a good MB and piece shit together) More trouble than its worth usually.
