The gallery search engine script from AWScripts.com (http://www.awscripts.com) now has an optional add-on to create thumbnails next to the search results.
Thumbs can be uploaded while submissions, and/or via the admin.
In the admin you can also "auto-thumb" a gallery by scanning for it's images and selecting one.
