we have a bunch of video, and all videos are still on original mini dv tape.

what program would you recommend to edit and work with it, and would a mac or a pc be better?

Adobe Premiere rocks, a bit hard to learn,
but Premiere can do all sorts of cool things.

Mac or PC I dont know, I have used it a lot
on PC, one thing I do know is... get LOTS of
ram and scsi drives or else Premiere will
crash a lot http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yup, Adobe Premiere is the best.

I've used Premier 5 and now have Premier 6. They're both top products but far too complicated for the average person and I find them both very unstable.

Maybe try looking at Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6.0

Not true. I tried different programs and find Premiere one of the most easy to use.
And on a fast computer it is stable.

Ah.. a question right up my ally.

Back when I started editing on computers, AVID was the shit and it ran on Mac's only (if you lad out the $80,000 for the system).

Now the price for pro-editing workstations is around 20k for something decent (dual stream real time 3d).

Here's the kicker, If you have things on MiniDV and access to a firewire port on your pc or mac, it makes no difference anymore, I suggest using either premiere or final cut.

The caveat used to be just digitizing the information, and granted a few years ago mac's handled this process much better than pcs, but since you have everything digital already, using firewire to get it in your computer is the easiest way to go.. After that, the software you use to edit is really inconsequential, as long as it's a commercial suppported product.

MY advice is to use premiere or final cut, they are both excellent programs and their learning curves are no harder than photoshop.

I would suggest brushing up on video terminology though, as it helps to understand your options.

I will vouch for premier on this one too...
Anything from Adobe is probably going to rock but Premier definitely does..

yeah, if you play with Premiere every
day, you can learn it in a week or two,
just dont start with something serious,
just mess around with it and have fun and
you will soon be good at it...

Now, for a hard to learn editing program
try AfterEffects, thats the most confusing
thing I ever saw, the one I tried was a
couple of versions back so maybe they
improved the interface...
