I swear man, I have been waiting my whole life for something like this..
Get this - 240 000 Extras were used in the making of these films for the Battle Scenes..
To put that in Scope, Braveheart used 1800 ...

I never thought they could ever pull off the feel of the book.. but it looks like they just might! That battle scene looks like its from the Return of the King, where did they get it in The Fellowship? Whatever, I cant wait for the movie! Not that it can give me the 3 months of pleasure the books did, but it sure will help me relive them for a couple of hours.

There is Hobit (book that comes before LOTR) and then there is LOTR (3 books).
All together have about 1700 pages in croatian edition so you'll have plenty of reading material http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

damn, Mag, you never read the Tolkein books? I'm sure you'll enjoy them on the long ass train ride you got planned - that sounds as enjoyable as root canal to me. But yeah, those books are cool - I highly doubt that any single movie is going to be able to capture all the shit those books give you. If any of you enjoy fantasy novels set in medieval times, check out these books. If you are into space age stuff, it might not be your cup of tea. But you might want to read a page or two in the bookstore - they really do suck you in. I never thought the books were too long - I actually wanted more.
Ralph Bashkie(Fritz the Cat, American Anthem) made 2 animated films from Tolkiens books. Kinda like ancient American anime LOL He did the Hobbit, and then he did Lord of The Rings, which tried to compress the 3 books into one flick. Wasn't too bad, but you obviously lose a great deal of the story.
24000 extras in the battle scenes? That does sound fucking cool. I know I'll be seeing this when it comes out. It'll be interesting to see what they do to the story, and how the make-up people interpret the characters.

no doubt that the movie won't be able to capture what the book does, no movie can but it will do a damn fine job trying I imagine..
hehe, not 24 000 extras dude, 240 000 ...
either that or 140 000... I know it is suppose to be above 100k..
I remember those old animated films..
Scared me when I first saw them and I was like 6 or something..
Anyone ever read Robert Jordan's Eye of the World Series? Now that is a series I want to see a movie of.. That would be unreal.. If you enjoyed Tolkien you will love Jordan...
