i tend lose my temper when im being screwed. i swear this is a true story....

<RANT>

i went to transfer a few domains to my new registrar (dotster) from network solutions and i couldnt because they were not in paid status. ok, fair is fair, ill pay em the $35 and move the domains anyway. waste of money but what the hell.

so i go online to pay the domains. my credit card was declined. hmm. tried again a few hours later. declined again. ok i'll use the automated phone thingy.

but you can only pay by invoice number on the phone thing. well, the invoices for the domains are of course for two years. but there is no way in hell im paying $70 each for two years on 10 domains.

so i call customer service to do it manually. after being on hold for 45 minutes long distance, i finally get some indian guy (no offense to anyone) who can't understand what im saying. finally he gets all my domains and says "you want 2 year"... i said "1 year"... he said "2 year"... i said "ONE YEAR"... he says "2 year only $65"... i said "ONE FUCKING YEAR".. he said "ok 1 year $35"

so at this point i assume he was gonna charge me 1 year for each of my domains. how stupid of me. so he processed the credit card and what do u know, it worked right away. hmmmmm.

ok now its a few days later. the charge finally shows up on my credit card... lets see 10 domains at $35 is $700... hmm... what the fuck. even if i had paid two years on each domain, it should be $650 if two years is $65....

so i call network solutions back. another 45 minutes on hold long distance. this time i get someone who knows english. she says they show i was charged for 1 year each. i say then why charge me $700. she says "$350"... i said "$700 FUCKING DOLLARS".. shes says "oh i see it now".... i guess that $350 on her screen suddenly morphed into $700 so she could see it now.

i told her to take half of it off. she cant. i said why not. she says i authorized the $700. i said no i didnt. she says i did. i said take it off or i charge it back. she says i cant do that. i told her to go fuck herself and hung up.

so i moved my domains to dotster. once they were transferred, i called my bank. told em the story. charged it back. blocked network solutions from ever making a charge on my cc again.

am i a criminal now? did i commit fraud? i guess so. but fuck network solutions.

</RANT>

whats odd is i've had other friends tell me they havent been able to renew domains online for 1 year, but could for 2 years. seems strange to me that a $70 charge would go through but a $35 charge wouldnt. i'm sure there was some random problem with the system, but honestly that seems quite odd to me. i know some people swear by NSOL but because of my litle experience they are finished as far as i'm concerned.

whats really funny is i'm getting all kinds of invoices and past due notices from them for domains i moved to dotster months ago.

anyway.... that's dawgy's rant for the day

Funny story, LOL!

Anyway, I was slick and as soon as I heard about Network Solutions' tactics I moved my domains, the ones I wanted to keep anyway, before they were due.

They are losing customers left and right and it serves them just right. They know people are leaving so when they get the chance they apply dirty tricks to force you to pay them.

Even the mafia couldn't have come up with a better a racket.

One more thing to blame the government for. They were basically "assigned" as the TLD registrar back in 1993. You must remember the internet is just the grown up and public version of a US defense department research network.

Network solutions are the worst company ever. Maybe even more worse than IICinternet.com http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
They are scammers, thiefs, liars, crooks etc. etc.
I simply hate them and wish their site would go down. I hate to see them earning 1 more buck.

I would report them to the FTC.. its very simple.. I did it with a bullshit hosting company back in 97. They said I owed them like 10X what I really did.. and then said they would not close my account until I paid it off.. and would be charged 10% interest WEEKLY!!

It worked well.. they were shutdown in 2 months.
