Yes, anyone using IIS on a real website did not make the right choice. Apache is much more stable, and free http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

There are millions of sites that run on nt based servers because of the capabilities they would have for development of tcp/ip applications that i suppose is not possible with *nix based systems.

Major corprations also use NT systems , because there are simply not enough advanced *nix administrators to fill in.

Best choice is Dos 5.0 and Windows 3.0 with a Apache server installed.
I NEVER heard of any Dos 5.0 server that got wacked http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Mac is a great OS specially if you get a G4 and there is an ISP that uses only Mac on their network. Mac is however a little less full featured then BSD and Nix OS but Mac is the leader for commercial design and media production.

I have yet to see a company that does heavy development on MS machines for commercial use. I would bet MS does not even build their products on their OS but who knows.

If you use NT your better off using the NT apache over the shitty IIS which you have to worry about if the door is still unlocked with every patch and release. There are benifits and downsides to every OS however windows is built on ease of use over reliability and will never be 100% stable in my view.

Personally i swear by Win98 SE over all the new MS releases as for NT its only good for the IT biz to make heaps of cash keeping the systems up and stable. If you need a solid hosting platform with great uptime and are willing to invest a little more work to learn the OS then go BSD or Nix.
