I have just read it on the webhosting board ... even online casinos do not return such results. Go to www.overture.com, and search for dedicated server ... yadda ... $22.27 per click for the first position.
<please, do not click >

not true, online casinos will always be the most expensive listing! once i went there the top listing for online casino is 32.42 and guess what the 2nd spot goes for . 32.41 1 cent less than the first spot. i would never advertise there.

How the hell do these online casinos even made any money? Or is this simply for branding? Or perhaps they're hoping their competition will "give in" and fold before they do thus winning the top spot allowing them to pay less for the listing?

Either way, it's not the best strategy in the world.

they must make a shitload off the gamblers. each surfer must be worth much more than 32 bux on avg or they wouldn't be paying that per click.

they bid on thousands and thousands of keywords which brings down the CPC.

Well, casinos have dominated pay per click search engines for over 2 years now. They are one of the most profitable businesses. I'm a bit stumped by the dedicated servers myself exceeding casinos was a bit of a shocker, but guess what, if they can afford to do it, it means its very profitable to them.

WG

online + casino is $19.84 at the moment, internet + casino $ 23.50 which is slightly more than ded servers.
It will change in a while, they have been running their bots like crazy just to be in top 3.
I do understand casinos, one customer can easily cover their budget but WTF with $99 ded servers??

I know penis enlargement is like 1.50 per click. I tried to advertise my penis enlargement site using overture, and at 11 cents per click, I was losing about 10 dollars per day.

I now have it set at around 7 cents per click, and I don't even make any money with that. If I set it lower, I'd get all of about 2 clicks per day, and overture would charge my account since it's mandatory to spend at least 20 dollars per month. I'm just hoping that the traffic I get know will convert into bookmarkers and sales down the long run.

Some of these companies are making millions, and can afford to pay for a little extra exposure, even if it means they're losing money. I think that most are in fact losing money, but still have enough "regulars" or bookmakers, and other means of promotion that it really doesn't matter to them. Just cause they run a successful online company, doesn't mean that they know what they're doing in all phases of advertising.

the beer companies have more money than god, they'll never spend it, they might as well keep branding.

I've talked to a few online casino people, he told me you make an average of $60 per month on a gambling member, I don't believe they make money at $32 per click or even $4 per click.
I have been advertising on PPC engines for a long time, at this moment if you have a site that converts well over 5 cents per click I'd be surprised. I think 50% of the top bids on search engines are newbies that just want traffic and they don't know how to monitor numbers so they lose money.

With top 3 listings you get more impressions, incl. Yahoo, MSN, AV etc. - we are talking about thousands of clicks on daily basis, and budget no less than $20K+ per DAY for premium positions.
How long would have these newbies been waiting, before they had pulled their links?
Week, two, three? I see the same links for months, and the price is growing (used to be about $15 five months ago, $18 two months ago for the first position).
