lets see....
Randomly, every once in a while i will get a ton of hits from a search engine
like 30 hits from the same page,..... Even if the page is 100 deep into the surfer's search.

Normally, for example with google the traffic is usually sprinkled throughout different keywords that surfers used.
but like i said above, yesterday i got a Ton of hits from the string " "rave girls" pics "
(here is a link, the site is called Webgirls Online) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22rave%20girls%22%20pics

Same thing happened with excite today...like 30 hits from a link that is 100 entries DEEP into the surfer's search..
http://srch.excite.com/d/search/p/excite/index.jhtml?Keywords=nonnude&view=1%20100%200&prev=0%200%200-1%2020%200-1%2040%200-1%2060%200-1%2080%200&c=web

So im wondering if anyone knows why this happens?
Is it maybe the search engines spidering me? or just fluctuations in traffic?
???
thakn you!

server stats are very inaccurate when showing details for search term traffic.

Just say one site has a number 3 listing under the term "rave girls" and that site links to you. Well in all likeliness your server stats will say that you're receiving traffic from that search term, when in reality it's the site that's linking to you that is getting that traffic.

The spider in your server stats will on occasion go through that site, and into your site- because the spider goes through your link (even if that site didn't send you any traffic whatsoever)

So in other words, on that given day, when your stats say that you got "xxx" amount of hits from that search string, what they mean is that the site that linked to you got that much traffic from the term "xxx" (not you).

As far as why it only happens on occasion, I'm not really sure why that is, but I'm guessing it's just due to inaccuracies.

hmmm maybe i worded my post wrong...
im sorry i was trying to get everything out w/o typing something so huge no one would read it lol

The site (webgirls online (webgirlsonline.net)) IS my site. And the traffic coming from the SEs is going directly to my site... i think.

i got the stats from my hitbox account and thats just what hit box says. As for stats i use webalizer, but i dont really like it because its just plain ugly.

But about what u said:
Were u saying that it is possible for a site to receive traffic from a SE, then when the person got THROUGH that site, and to another one, the second site logs the traffic as if it came from the SE, and not the site linking to it?

How the heck can this happen?

http://www.heyasl.com/ , a silly and somewhat unfinished site of mine, suddenly got 1,500+ clickthroughs from yahoo via second page search results for the term "sex." The party ended almost exactly 48 hours after it started.

I don't know how it got listed under that term, or how it was so high up (result #12 I think), or why it was only there for 2 days! I only noticed right near the end of the 2 days.

Cheers.

damn... it must of been good while it lasted!!

I have one more question that just crossed my mind...

If i search for my site on google, a gallery page comes up then under it will be my Main page.
so an example is like...

webgirls online gallery xX
descriptiong blah blah blah
.........Webgirls Online (Main site url)

it treats my root site like its sub page under the gallery...Which im not to happy with cause id rather surfers enter through the Main page, instead of a gallery....

How come it does this? Can i fix it?

I think you're talking about indented results? From what I can work out, it means the results are from the same site.

The individual gallery is considered a better match than your main page, so the main page gets lumped into the result block for that site...

It may be because there are more overall links to your gallery pages rather than the root domain.

Cheers.
