View Full Version : Weird RB2 stats? Possible IMG SRC?

My RB2 stats are showing the weirdest thing.
This morning Im showing shitloads of traffic coming in from my own domain. My top refer is "myself" Im supposedly sending myself thousands of hits with no clicks.
How coudld this be? It's looks as if I am img src'ing myself? Ive noticed this happening before too on a few occasions, and just cant figure out what's going on.
If I were being Img src'd by somebody...It would show their domain in my referers but with shitty traffic right?
Anybody want to take a stab at what going on?
Thanks http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/frown.gif

Maybe someone use a hitbot on the site of yours the hits are coming in from.

do you redirect your 404 to your out.cgi?
richard

that makes no sense, you'd have to be 404'ing your in.cgi http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

No,
But my 404 does go back to my mainpage URL...the same URL that is sending all this traffic.

Maybe there's something about your site that makes people run like hell? I mean... Since nobody clicks? Hehe, naw... http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

sounds like your problem http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
when you say "mainpage", do you mean index.cgi or what?

IN my htaccess, I set my 404 to go to my root domain http://www.exotic-princess.com (which I believe is index.shtml)
I appreciate you trying http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

This does sound like your problem.
This about it, the 404 is likely to contain the your domain as the http_referer, so when someone hits a 404, they call your "in" script (via the ssi call on index.shtml).
Now, imagine you have a broken image on your site somewhere... (broken as it is not there, ie is a 404 error). This call for the image is redirected to your mainpage, where the SSI is called...
so it IS like you are image sourcing yourself, but accidentally via a broken image somewhere.
http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif Used to happen to me, only i did it the other way, i had 404 going to my out.cgi, so i ended up image sourcing my trade partners accidentally. (that is why some sites who use 404 to hide out.cgi have a sub dir - ie all links point towards domain.com/xxx/some_non_existent_page, and have the .htaccess in the /xxx dir).

I see! I think you are right. Or, if sombody is trying to hotlink a picture of mine...say on a one of the BBS boards out there...it would redirect back to my URL.
Thanks for the help!!! http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif

http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif no worries bud.
Take a look in your error log (or ask host to) and find out all your 404 errors to locate the problem.
You wanna change the 404 page as well - make a mirror of your index.shtml, and remove the SII tags from the new page, then direct your 404 traffic to the page without the SSI call.

I have the same problem on Dieselspace. I think, that the peoblem is in default setting of index page on this free host. When I set the index page manualy, it works fine, but when it does the server, as default, it make this strange thing...

Richard's answer about redirecting your 404 to a mirror without the SSI counter will cure your problem if it is 404 related. If it is related to someone trying to get to your pics and getting kicked back to your default page, maybe this will be of some use.
I figure I'm wasting my time trying to sell (or even give) anything to people looking for backdoors or whatever, especially as often it is software (gozilla etc) and not real surfers trying to do this stuff anyway.
So my rewrites in protected directories don't point to my index pages. Instead I sometimes send them to a separate (non-counting) "hotlink" page where, depending on my mood I can either abuse them or politely ask them to select a link. More often, I just totally say to hell with it and redirect them to the FBI or APIC.

The exit console on Dieselspace is added automaticaly, but I have one site without this option (I must add exit to my page manualy) This site works fine, but the other with automatic exit add (default.html) make this trange things. I think, that the problem is here. The solution of the problem is to write to administrafor and ask him, if you can add this exit console manualy.

I'm glad to anounce, that this problem has been fixed on our servers, so everyone, who is hosted with us shouldn't have any more problems with RB2.

Are you submitting galleries from your domain that link to your site?

I do...yes.
I also did get those galleries listed on some high traffic sites. Im also thinking that people may be looking for a backdoor to a directory or somthing...thus sending them to my index.shtml URL. But out of 6k...I would think more that 60 people would surf my site...it's a fairly surfer friendly site.
At least I now believe that its just surfers trying to fuck me...by hotlinking or trying to look into a directory...and not another webmaster..so Im happy. I just think I need to send that 404 somplace else...cause it's not bringing me any extra traffic! http://bbs.adultwebmasterinfo.com/ubb/smile.gif
BTW...Im not hosted on Dieselspace.
