Paypal is fine. Are you guys crazy? This company offers a great online service and they do turn a profit. They are not going anywhere. Granted their customer service is shaky at best but this does not mean they are struggling financially or shutting down.

C'mon guys please get your heads out of your asses.

A $28 million dollar loss is not exactly turning a profit ...

Well then maybe we need to start a save the paypal foundation..

I know their service has saved me money and lots of it.. I know without paypal EbaY would suffer some losses also..

Now by making paypal have even more bad press your hurting all of us who use it be costing them a bad name regardless. Yes the media loves to feed info that is what makes them money but it does not mean paypal is dead.

I think they would notify everyone if they plan to shut down there is no way they can just keep everyones money.

Its not very logical that paypal is going under, Maby they had a loss, but it happens. Paypal is one of a kind, and is used by so many people, I dont see it going anywhere.

Hey erotictrance,

Whew man it's a good thing Amazon never lost more than $28 million, huh. Give me a break dude... We're not talking about a mom & pop candy store. BIG business is very different... The more you owe the more the banks and investors are going to help you keep your doors open. There's a guy from New York named Donald Trump...

You people must not watch the news very much. A very high percentage of online companies have been losing money lately.

If I'm not mistaken, I remember reading an article a few weeks ago praising overture just because they broke a profit during the last quarter, something many online companies haven't been able to do.

So ... I can only conclude from these posts that everybody wants to bury their head in the sand and pretend that PayPal doesn't have any problems ...

All I am saying is that the claims that PayPal is profitable are ridiculous ... Last quarter they lost $28 million, the same quarter a year before that they lost $48 million.

The Amazon analogy is also ridiculous ... Amazon is in big trouble. They just lost their lead in online books to Barnes and Noble. Their stock price is in the toilet ... and various Wall Street firms have downgraded the stock --- meaning they're recommending that people NOT invest and/or bailout in the company ...

Fortune magazine recently predicted that Amazon will NEVER turn a profit ...

You say I'm spreading bad press ...

Is is better to totally mislead webmasters into believing that PayPal is fine --- making totally unfounded claims they're profitable --- So that webmasters don't make alternative plans if they go under?

That's irresponsible ...

Could'nt of said it better myself, its very unfortunate tho, I do like the paypal service, I too have saved alot of cash over the years using it for different transfers, Would be nice to see it around in the future, But I think people better prepare themselves for the harsh reality of steping backwards in the alternative billing resource department, atleast until some other similar companies are able to establish a solid program similar what paypal been able to provide, this time it will hopefully succeed and all will be happy :D

Thanks Chris ...

I know PayPal saves webmasters a lot of money ...

But it's only because PayPal subsidizes those cost savings ...

They eat the transaction fee as well as all of the chargeback risks ... which is costing them millions ...

(The article says one major fraud event alone cost PayPal $5.7 million this year ...)

Let's face it ... even if PayPal survives ... I doubt they'll be able to continue to absorb those costs which make them a "cheaper" alternative ...
