Daily FREE Traffic Tips

I'll be posting daily traffic tips here. While most of these tips apply to mainstream, they can be tweaked to apply to adult site marketing as well.

WARNING: I don't claim to be a SUPER expert in traffic (although I do run the old traffic blog http://justtraffic.blogspot.com ), so take everything with a grain of salt. I'm sure many of you are more expert at this material than myself. This thread is just my attempt at trying to GIVE SOMETHING BACK to the community and help fellow webmasters. All CONSTRUCTIVE comments would be greatly welcome.

Here's tip #1:

Always view and analyze your traffic logs. Assuming that you've put in SOME effort promoting your site, there will be SOME traffic going to your site already. I use Google Analytics but there's many other free counters/stats programs out there.

Figure out which sites send you traffic. Ask the following questions:

How much traffic are they sending?
Where on their page are they sending traffic from?
What keywords are they using to send traffic to me?

Some tips:

LESS can sometimes be MORE

If a "general niche" site is sending you traffic through a niche keyword, you need to seize this opportunity by determining how "sticky" the traffic is (ie., is that stream of traffic sticking around your site or do they just enter and leave immediately?)

If you're getting non-sticky traffic but get quite a bit of it, try changing the target page to something more relevant to the niche. Keep tweaking until the time spent by the user on your site increases.

Less can be more if your site acts as an effective site for targeted terms/traffic. Sometimes, rifle shots achieve more (with higher $ per click) than shotgun blasts.

If a "specific niche" site is sending you traffic, pay careful attention to the keyword links on that site that are sending you traffic. Some may be longtail keywords that you'd like to build specific pages for.

Next post: Analyzing traffic source sites further and some tips/tricks.

Tip #2

When analyzing your site's traffic using Google analytics, keep in mind the # of pages viewed based on keyword. This is very important. Figure out which keywords generate the most traffic "depth."

As mentioned above, capitalize on this depth by building more pages ON that keyword and on RELATED keywords. This is where having pages built on LONGTAIL searches (i.e., more refined but lower traffic search terms that usually involve longer search phrases). You can find related LONGTAIL terms
by using Wordze or Keyword tracker.

Build pages for these and link them to the main entry area for their main niche.

Example:

Niche 1 > longtail subniche 1, 2, 3 etc.

Tip #3 Keep track of your longtail subniche pages and see which generate sales. Apply the elements of the performing pages (without cannibalizing the keywords) to the nonperforming ones. If that doesn't work, kill the nonperforming pages and replicate the performing pages (again, paying attention to your keywords).

Tip #4

Trading site reviews are a great way to generate backlinks. When asking for reviews--ask the reviewer to review your TLD (using the main keywords for your TLD) but linking primarily to a deep link in your site (deep url). Just linking to your TLD is too "shallow". A little "context" goes a long way--so deep link. Don't recycle the same review text, either. Put in the extra effort and use original content.

Also, don't trade reviews link for link like A reviews B and B reviews A. Use A>B>C linking. Meaning, you own A and C. So in exchange for B linking to your site C, your site A links to site B.

Tip #5 This is gonna be a short one. Put your domains in your email sig file. Of course, depending on the site you run, it might not be a good idea to put an adult url on your personal email sig Regardless, MAXIMIZE the daily channels of communication you're already using to spread the word about your site.

If you only have one site, try subpages. However, depending on the situation, it may put a heavier emphasis on finding the right partner site since it must be able to take the PR you're passing from subpage A (authority weight = subniche A) AND at the same time be able to pass some "link juice" (or I prefer "authority weight") to your subpage C.

Your partner site is B. So you have SUBPAGE A link to B (best would be deeplink) and B links to your SUBPAGE C.

Tip #6 Try guestblogging. Find sites that are related enough (to be able to pass link power/authority weight) but not DIRECT competitors. Ask to blog for them or submit articles to them in exchange for a deep link backlink.

Tip #7 Create profiles at MASHABLE and other social networking sites. It's not a good idea to link to porn sites directly but create a NAUGHTY (pg-13) landing page that then links out to your other stuff.

The big thing about Google Analytics is its just analysis, not a trading script. So, if anyone is interested in a paid traffic analysis and trading script, check out http://www.zeroscript.net

Nice graphs, great tools, and its on your server rather than a 3rd party.

Tip #8 Join social networking sites and join groups with similar interests. Share ON TOPIC urls that your fellow group members would appreciate. Don't share your sites at this stage. Gain trust and credibility first. You do this by sharing relevant and USEFUL content. Slowly recruit them to your own group(s). Once you have them in your group, be very helpful and given them quality links. You can then ramp up your site promotions from here. Encourage communications and community-building amongst your members.

Tip #9: Create a newsletter for your site.

You've busted your ass to get traffic to your site. Set up a way where you can stay in touch with people that are INTERESTED in getting more info on your content updates or on your services. A newsletter allows you to hang on to some of your traffic by converting them into a ready audience for your updates, contests, etc.

Create a premium for your newsletter--reward them for signing up.
